Playwright William Shakespeare once famously wrote, "This above all: to thine own self be true / And it must follow, as the night the day / Thou canst not then be false to any man."
For Dr. Robin, these words get at the heart of what it means to live your best life. When you dare to be your true self, she says everything else falls into place. It may not always be easy, but it's the most rewarding path to take, she says.
Is there an area in your life where you aren't being true to yourself? Perhaps you present a facade of your real personality to your children. Maybe you sit silently at family gatherings instead of saying what's truly on your heart and mind.
Dare to be who you really are instead of pretending to be someone you're not, Dr. Robin says. Speaking your truth will free you from the shackles of falsehood and have a positive ripple effect on others. "Once you really are true to your own self, what then happens is you won't be false and fake to any other person who's in your life," she says.
