Gayle King
She was one of the hottest singers of the '80s, best known for her unique voice and eccentric style. Today, at 53, Cyndi Lauper is still singing and sporting her unusual look! Gayle talks to Cyndi about her music career and family life.

Gayle says she loved the message of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Released in 1983, the song shot Cyndi to fame and was widely seen as an anthem for women. "It was a great moment," Cyndi says. "It influenced me and it was something that affected all of us." The song, along with the album She's So Unusual, went on to receive Grammy® nominations for Record of the Year and Album of the Year respectively.

Today, Cyndi divides her time between homes in New York and Connecticut, with her husband of 15 years and their nine-year-old son. She still dyes her hair different colors (last week it was mint green; now it's platinum!), but admits she tries to tone it down for her son's sake. At a recent parent-teacher conference, Cyndi says she tried to look conservative. "I wore simple shoes, a big white shirt … and I wore very little makeup with really pale lips," Cyndi says. "Just very simple."
