The last time Chris Tucker fans saw the comedian and actor on the big screen was in 2001 for Rush Hour 2. Now, with Rush Hour 3 hitting the theaters, Chris is back in his well-known role as Detective James Carter. Gayle talks to Chris about his latest film, his hiatus from acting and the charitable work he is promoting around the world.
Chris says the box-office success of the Rush Hour franchise has afforded him the luxury to do what he wants with his life. He also says that his fame has allowed him to tour the world with the likes of Bono, Bill Clinton, Colin Powell and Oprah to bring attention to the plight of children in Africa, AIDS victims and those with a lack of clean drinking water. "Those are the type of things that really move me and I am fortunate enough because of what I do, it gives me the opportunity to travel," he says. While Chris says that his six years away from Hollywood have been rewarding, he is excited to be back in the famous Rush Hour role that his fans love. "I think the reason why people love this movie is because of the relationship between me and Jackie [Chan]—two guys from two different worlds, put together and forced to work together," he says. While the fish-out-of-water routine that Chris says he and Jackie play as detectives is always full of laughs, he says he will be branching out into different roles in the future. "I always think about being typecast because I haven't done a different movie in a while," he says. "[Now] I want to show more of what I can do." Published on August 08, 2007
