Clutter-Free Holidays

Getting home for the holidays can sometimes be frustrating because of congested airports. Today show travel editor Peter Greenberg says coming up with a Plan A or B won't help you when it comes to holiday air travel. "You'd better get ready for Plans G, H and I—because that is where you're going to end up by the time you get through the airport," he says.

While no one says flying home for the holidays will be easy, Peter does have some insider tips that can help ease the stress of the holiday crunch at the airport:

  • The night before you travel, check in online and print out your boarding pass.
  • Don't head for departures once you arrive at the airport. Skip a lot of traffic by going to arrivals and then go up an escalator and enter security screening from there.
  • Ship your bags to your destination through a courier ahead of time.
  • Have your hired car or family member pick you up at the departures gate instead of the arrivals gate and bypass a traffic jam.
