Super Tuesday was a big day in the Peete household! Holly and Rodney took their children with them to vote in the presidential primary election—and the children even participated in their own kiddie mock election. "We felt like it was important to get [our kids] involved and engage them civically—I think civic engagement is really important to start at an early age," Holly says.

Rodney says conversations about the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the recent violence in Kenya are part of their family's daily life. "I think sometimes we shelter our children and they grow up in this false sense of security or false fantasy world when, [in reality], there's real activity and real children globally that are going through some serious issues," he says.

Also, Holly and Rodney talk about a Utah family with six children who have varying degrees of autism. Holly says the story hit close to home because the Peetes' son R.J. has autism. She says she can't imagine the emotional and financial toll it takes on parents to raise six children with the disorder. "This situation with autism has been very deep in our lives, and we feel like we need to be speaking out about it more and the world needs to be talking about it more," she says.
