To maintain a clean home with children, Peter says parents must control the inflow of new things with the following tips:
- Stop spoiling them. Request friends and family give your children an experience, rather than buy them a toy or other material gift. For example, have Grandma bring over ingredients for baking cookies, or ask an uncle or aunt to take your child to a museum, park or zoo.
- Teach kids about charity. Encourage your children to give away their least used or least favorite toys to those in need. Visit a local charity so your kids can see firsthand where their donations are going and who they will be helping, Peter says.
