Brag!
![]() Who likes a braggart? You know the type—smug, arrogant, a little too full of themselves. But, then again, if you don't toot your own horn, who will? Gayle talks with Peggy Klaus, communication and leadership coach and author of Brag! The Art of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It.
Peggy says it's important to remind others of your successes, especially in the competitive business world. In fact, staying silent or even downplaying your achievements can hamper you, she says. "Why is it that we can't stand up and say, 'I'm proud of myself'?" Peggy asks. Peggy says there is a tactful way to brag to your employer and that there is a difference between good braggers and bad braggers. "Bad braggers are people whose behavior ranges from not only being boring but talking incessantly, never asking about another person, using a laundry list of 'I, I, I, I,'…and they condescend," Peggy says. "Of course, we were taught not to do that. But good bragging is a way of talking about yourself in a very conversational and story-like manner."
