Beyoncé and Gayle
She's a nine-time Grammy winner and designer of her own fashion line. Gayle talks to the beautiful Beyoncé Knowles about her starring role in the new movie Dreamgirls.

The film, adapted from the Tony award-winning musical, tells the story of a 1960s girl group on their quest for fame. Beyoncé plays Deena Jones, a backup singer whose stunning good looks quickly thrust her to center stage. "I knew in my heart that it was the role for me," she says.

To prepare for her part, Beyoncé says she lost 20 pounds. "Trust me, I love my fried food, I love my mom's food, I love my donuts," she says. "But when it came time for the movie, I was in the zone."

Gossip column rumors have swirled about an alleged rivalry between Beyoncé and co-star Jennifer Hudson. Beyoncé says nothing could be farther from the truth, and blames the press for its preoccupation with female feuds. "I don't think it's personal, but because we're females, unfortunately, that's how the media works," she says.

With both her music and acting career on fire, Beyoncé says she truly is living out her dream. "I really do feel like this cannot be real," she says. "Everything that's going on in my life...it really is a dream!"
