Best Life Weight Loss Challenge Update III
![]() In February 2007, six specially selected participants joined Bob's Best Life Weight Loss Challenge. Now, Bob checks in with two of the challengers to get an update on their health, fitness and weight loss progress.
Barbara quit smoking "cold turkey" at the beginning of the Best Life Weight Loss Challenge and she says she has kicked the habit for good. "It was hard but I did it, and if I can do it, I truly believe anybody can do it because I was absolutely a slave to my cigarettes," she says. Bob says Barbara's effort to quit smoking is commendable, but he also recognizes that after an initial weight loss of 12 pounds Barbara hasn't lost any more weight. While Bob says he believes that Barbara is working out consistently, he says her plateau is most likely due to her age (50) and her past smoking habit. "You smoked, so that artificially raised your metabolism and you're going to pay that price. And [your] age, it's harder now [to lose weight] than 10 years ago," he says. On the plus side, Barbara says she is fitting into her clothes better than ever and she plans to continue working out and dieting consistently. Melissa, another challenger and mother of two young children, says she has changed her life dramatically since starting the Best Life Weight Loss Challenge. From sleeping in all day, feeling depressed and eating fatty foods to working out and eating right, Melissa says she is finding success. "My weight in January was 196, my goal weight is 125 and [today] I am at 171," she says. "I feel absolutely wonderful." With more energy and zest for life, Melissa says she has had the best summer in recent memory. Melissa says she plans to continue exercising more and have the best results possible for the Best Life Weight Loss Challenge finale on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
