![]() The participants of Bob's Best Life Weight Loss Challenge are talking with him about their progress so far! On his last radio show, challengers Bob, Melissa and Tracy gave Bob an update. Now, Tori, Barbara and LaToya join Bob to talk about the challenge and their recent weigh in on The Oprah Winfrey Show .
Three months into the process, Barbara says she realizes that, at age 50, losing weight is not as easy as it once was. "It just seems like everything shut down on me and I am a little bit upset because I am at a plateau right now," she says. Bob says Barbara shouldn't be frustrated because she did lose a little more than 11 pounds and she quit smoking at the same time—an amazing feat. "Smoking artificially raises your metabolism," Bob says. "You defend a weight that is typically 15 to 18 pounds lower if you are a smoker." In reality, Bob says Barbara is doing great—she just needs to ask friends and family to be supportive of her weight loss program and smoke-free lifestyle. LaToya says she felt like she was being picked on during the weigh-in on The Oprah Winfrey Show because she only lost six pounds. "I feel like people are judging my success and progress based on the scale and not what I am doing every day," she says. As a busy PhD student with a limited income, LaToya says she can't afford a gym membership. It wasn't until the challengers spent time working out with the team at Cal-a-Vie Spa in California that she had a breakthough. "When we had the one-on-one at Cal-a-Vie, that is when the lightbulb went off and I realized that I actually had to change my entire lifestyle ," she says. Bob says the producers of The Oprah Winfrey Show are going to help LaToya with the weight loss challenge by buying her a membership at a local gym for the summer. Tori says the Best Life Weight Loss Challenge has been a fantastic match for her and she has lost 20 pounds in just three months. "The one motivating factor is this is probably the first time I have lost a large amount of weight doing a program," she says. Overcoming body issues is a problem that Tori says she has struggled with since childhood. Now, with help from Bob and the wisdom of age, Tori says she is overcoming her body image issues. "Through my journey, as I am getting older and accepting who I am, I'm feeling more comfortable and I feel that I am at a place now where I am in the zone and it doesn't matter," she says.
