Dr. Robin Smith

Are you a good friend? You may want to sit back and ask yourself that question, instead of asking those closest to you. Taking your own advice is one of the most important things you can do, Dr. Robin says. "If you become your own best friend, you know what's good for you."

While you may have strong opinions about what your friends are doing with their own lives, Dr. Robin asks why you aren't tapping into that same resource for yourself. She says you need to use the opinions that you are using for everybody else's life in your own situation.

Dr. Robin says you should ask yourself, "If I cared and I was my own friend, what would I say about the situation I am now in?" That is the challenge, she says, because we know what is best for our own lives.
