How open are you? Do you dislike trying new foods from different cultures? Do read the same newspaper every day? Dr. Robin says that instead of sticking by what you know you like, you should be open to new things. "Being open is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself—it will expand your mind, your spirit and the way you live your life," she says.
If you come from a family of shy people or people who don't like change, Dr. Robin says it is time to branch out and encourage your family to do so as well. "You will be able to redefine things in a way that in the past you haven't been able to because your own mind was too closed," she says.
Being open is not always an easy thing to do. In fact, Dr. Robin says trying something new can be uncomfortable—but that is okay, she says. "A certain amount of discomfort—at least at the beginning of a new concept—is necessary," she says. "If you are always comfortable, you are probably not being open nearly enough."
Dr. Robin says if you are not trying to be open, it's likely that you are going to fall short of what you can really accomplish in your life. By thinking of openness as a gift and embracing it wholeheartedly, Dr. Robin says you will experience more than you ever knew possible. "You can benefit from all that is in the world and it can help you become the very best you," she says.
