If something is stirring you up and you can't seem to stop thinking about it, Dr. Robin says it's time to sit in the hot seat and face your issues. Whether you are preoccupied by joy, pain or fear, she says addressing the issue will help you gain perspective on your situation.
The hot seat is really a place you shouldn't run away from, Dr. Robin says. "Instead of jumping off of the hot seat, sit back, strap yourself in and ask yourself, 'Where is it that my needs didn't get met?'" she says. The hot seat is meant to be our teacher and private tutor in life—it is the presence that brings the light and the truth to us, Dr. Robin says. "Isn't it true that the thing that we avoid, it doesn't go away?" she says. "We can't wish it away and we can't sleep it away—the only thing we can do ultimately is to sit on the hot seat, to feel the feeling, to face the pain and to face whatever it is that is in front of us."
