![]() It's been more than 40 years since he began his music career, and his newest CD is his highest-selling debut album ever! Gayle talks to Aaron Neville about Bring It on Home…The Soul Classics, his collection of 13 soul classics. Plus, the New Orleans native talks about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and his longtime love affair with his wife.
Aaron says his newest collection of songs includes some of his favorites, such as "Stand by Me," "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay" and "When a Man Loves a Woman." The CD is a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, he says. Aaron himself was in New York when the storm hit, but says the devastation affected him greatly. "I have compassion for everybody that goes through any kind of catastrophe like that, around the world or wherever, but this is my home, my people," he says. Aaron says he has not returned to New Orleans since then—under doctors' orders for his asthma and his wife's lung cancer, he settled in Nashville after the storm. Aaron says between her diagnosis in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina, the songs on his CD all took on new meaning. "They became prayers instead of just a song," he says. Today, Aaron's wife is feeling better, and after almost 50 years of marriage, four children and six grandchildren, Aaron says their relationship is just as strong today as the day they were married. "She's become a part of me," he says.
