As a gossip columnist for the New York Post, Liz Smith spends her days getting the scoop on the latest celebrity happenings. Liz talks to Gayle about her reign as the "grand dame of dish" and her new gig as a co-founder of a website geared toward women over 40.
As a regular contributor to wowowow.com*, a network for women who want to talk about culture, politics and gossip, Liz says she's pleasantly surprised that the site has attracted attention from such a large demographic. "The thing that has amazed me about this is that we have had such an outpouring from women," she says. More than a dozen successful women, including Lesley Stahl, Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters, join Liz as website contributors, blogging about everything from current events to health, but she says the current presidential election has been a very popular topic. "We are having so much fun because we get so much response and conversation posted about it," she says. "It has created the most political interest in America in years. It's so great that there are all these young people that are so enthusiastic about it." Liz says that although wowowow.com is different from her usual stint as a newspaper columnist, she is enjoying the change. "You can get away with more on the Internet, and it encourages you to tell the truth more," she says. "It's very freeing."
