A Good Kind of Dangerous

Oprah.com   |   May 02, 2007
Dr. Robin Smith
Have you ever been cut off on the highway by another driver? How did you react? Dr. Robin says keeping your cool instead of swearing and swerving at the driver actually makes you a frightening force to be reckoned with. "It is a dangerous and powerful reality when someone else cannot be their best self and you still choose to be your best self," she says.

Dr. Robin says making important, mature, grown-up decisions can be a dangerous yet positive way to live your life—not dangerous as in "scary," Dr. Robin says, but rather a "dangerous presence and force."

If you decide to stay focused and pleasant when a co-worker refuses to smile when you say "Good morning" or when your in-laws criticize your parenting, Dr. Robin says you are living dangerously in a positive way. "[If] you behave like a grown-up who is sound and in your right mind, in your right spirit and right attitude, no one can throw you off your center," she says.
