Built around a "sacred circle" that was once a Native American ceremonial ground, eco-friendly El Monte Sagrado provided a peaceful setting for the three-day photo shoot. "It is very centering place—I felt in balance the entire time I was there," says O's creative director, Adam Glassman. "Every room was different and somehow spoke to all of us." Among the 36 rooms and suites are one-bedroom casitas—each with a fireplace and private courtyard—that represent different parts of the world, including Bali, Egypt and the Caribbean. Native American-inspired junior suites display portraits of Black Elk, Crazy Horse and Chief Joseph. At the Living Spa, guests can choose the High Desert Body Polish (a treatment with ingredients made from local plants and flowers) or the Myofascial Release, an oil-free body massage meant to relieve chronic pain. For those seeking more heart-pumping activities, there is hiking, kayaking, white-water rafting, hot-air ballooning and llama trekking. Afterward, you can rest up at De La Terra, one of two on-site restaurants. Rooms range from $395 to $1,495 a night. For more information, call 800-828-TAOS or visit www.elmontesagrado.com.
