I don't like endings. Opening and closing a book, picking it up and putting it back down, reading one page or three chapters at a time—you're still with those characters as you go about your life; they're knocking around in your head, kind of part of you. And they inhabit you for as long as the story remains not quite over.I sometimes don't finish a book because then the story never ends. I realize I'm doing that a lot, not reading the last few pages. Except for Philip Roth's novels—I'm a massive Roth fan. As for the other five books on my list, I'm just noticing I finished them all.
