Traveling to Atlanta

The nearest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), is just 10 miles south of downtown Atlanta. This airport is the primary hub of Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection and AirTran Airways. With more than 2,500 arrivals and departures daily, Atlanta International Airport makes visiting the Georgia World Congress Center very convenient.

Atlanta Airport Shuttle Services, provided by A-National Limousine, offers vans, minibuses and charter services to the downtown, midtown and Buckhead areas. Shuttles leave the airport every 15 minutes. Flat rates for shuttle transportation to and from the Atlanta International Airport are listed below. Flat Rate Shuttle to/from Atlanta International Airport:
  • Downtown: one way $16.50/person, round-trip $29/person
  • Midtown: one way $18.50/person, round-trip $33/person
  • Buckhead: one way $20.50/person, round-trip $37/person

By Train

Amtrak offers daily train service to Atlanta on the Crescent route. The Atlanta Amtrak station is located at 1688 Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. This station, located just outside downtown Atlanta, is a short cab ride from the Georgia World Congress Center. For more information about Amtrak transportation please visit www.amtrak.com.

By Bus

Greyhound offers bus service to Atlanta from many major cities in the Southeast. The Atlanta Greyhound station, just minutes from the Georgia World Congress Center, is located at 232 Forsyth Street, Atlanta, GA 30303. By Car

Driving into Atlanta from the south (or Atlanta International Airport): Take I-75/85 North to Central Avenue (Exit 246). The exit ramp will become Central Avenue. Take a left turn onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Northside Drive. The Georgia World Congress Center (and Building C, where O You! is held) will be located on the right after you pass the Georgia Dome.

Driving into Atlanta from the north: Take I-75/85 South to Williams Street (Exit 249C). The exit ramp will become Williams Street. Turn right at the first light onto Ivan Allen, Jr. Boulevard. Stay on Ivan Allen, Jr. Boulevard. until arriving at Northside Drive. Building C of the Georgia World Congress Center will be on the left once you reach Northside Drive.

Driving into Atlanta from the west: Take I-20 East to Spring Street (Exit 56B). Turn left onto Spring Street, then left onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Northside Drive. The Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, will be on the right after you pass the Georgia Dome.

Driving into Atlanta from the east: Take I-20 West to Spring Street (Exit 56B). Turn right onto Spring Street, then left onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Northside Drive. The Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, will be on the right after you pass the Georgia Dome.

If you are driving, dial 511 (the Georgia Navigator) to receive free traffic and travel information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It provides state route and interstate information, plus estimated Atlanta travel times.

Getting Around Atlanta

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is Atlanta's public transportation system, comprising bus and rail lines. This transit system connects all parts of Atlanta, and a one-way bus or rail trip (including transfers) costs only $2. MARTA also provides transportation from Atlanta International Airport. This MARTA station attached to the airport is accessible from baggage claim. MARTA also offers transportation to the Georgia World Congress Center. The MARTA stations closest to Building C, where O You! will be held, are the W1 Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena station and the W2 Vine City station. Atlanta Taxis Atlanta Checker Cab provides transportation throughout the Atlanta metro area. Flat rates for transportation to and from Atlanta International Airport are listed below. For trips in and around Atlanta, meter rates apply ($2.25 base rate, $2 for each mile). Flat Rate to/from Atlanta International Airport:
  • Downtown: $30/person ($2 for each additional passenger)
  • Midtown: $32/person ($2 for each additional passenger)

  • Parking at O You!

    There are multiple options for parking near Building C at the Georgia World Congress Center. Two surface parking lots, the Blue Lot and the Yellow Lot, are gated and have an attendant on duty during event hours. Parking in these lots cost $10 for an all-day pass. General admission parking passes may be reserved and pre-paid by visiting http://www.gwcc.com/directions/Default.aspx. From this page click on the parking permits icon and then select "General Admission" from the drop-down menu. Select "O You! The Oprah Magazine Event" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the purchase. Please note that these parking lots do not allow re-entry; once you leave the lot an admittance fee will be required to enter.

    What to Pack

    No idea what to bring? Here's a packing checklist and some helpful tips so you can be on your way to an unforgettable weekend. Please dress comfortably and wear something that makes you feel your best! You should also wear comfortable shoes.
    • Bring clothes that can be layered and removed depending on the weather; average October temperatures for Atlanta are in the mid-60s.
    • Check the forecast when packing, and remember, it never hurts to have an easy-to-carry umbrella for unexpected showers.
    • Don't forget to leave some extra room in your suitcase! You'll want to bring back O You! memorabilia and gift bags.
    • Be sure to bring your camera to capture all the special moments and unforgettable memories from O You! 2011.

    Atlanta Fun Facts

    • There are more than 100 streets in Atlanta with the word Peachtree in their name, so be sure to follow your directions carefully!
    • If you ask locals for directions you may hear words like "ITP" and "OTP." These nicknames reference communities that are "Inside the Perimeter" or "Outside the Perimeter" created by Interstate 285, a nearly 63-mile stretch of highway that encircles much of the city of Atlanta.
    • The Georgia Dome (located at the Georgia World Congress Center) is the world's largest cable-supported dome stadium! It hosted the 2000 Super Bowl, as well as gymnastics, basketball and handball in the 1996 Olympic Games.
