Next stop: Cape Town!
Creative Director Adam Glassman and the O fashion team use the 18-hour trip to read up on their location. "From the moment you touch down, you're nonstop working!" he says. As for Eckhart Tolle? "I'm a huge fan."
First Up: High Tea at the Table Bay Hotel
The pastry chef at the recently refurbished resort (our crew's home base) impresses Adam and the team with a stunning dessert with a traditional, British high tea. "The treats are really fun and fanciful to look at—that's what draws me in," Adam says.
Fresh-Faced and Ready to Shoot
Models Anastasia Jenkin and Dayna Joseph enjoy the spectacular (but surprisingly quick!) ride on the Table Mountain Cableway. Says Adam, "As the car goes up, it also turns 360 degrees around so you're able to see a whole panorama of Cape Town."
Before the Crowds
…and the fog. Photographer Roger Neve takes an early-morning shot from the top of Table Mountain.
Now for a Bit of Monkey Business
"I bought a ton of these for my nieces," Adam says of these one-of-a-kind beaded figurines, made at Monkeybiz, a nonprofit bead shop staffed by disadvantaged women from Cape Town's local townships (and one of the shoot's most interesting locations). "The colors are amazing."
A Quick Look Upstairs
Next, our crew visited MJ.Visual, another nonprofit bead boutique staffed by local women. The shop produces beaded portraiture and murals, and, along with Monkeybiz, supports a wellness center that provides healthcare, nutrition, and yoga classes for HIV-positive bead artists.
Would You Like Porsche with That?
The next location comes with a feast for the palate and the eyes. Chef Bruce Robertson wines and dines our team at his chic restaurant, The Showroom, which is attached to a high-end car dealership.
Still in the Showroom, Adam jokes around with Anastasia, pulled together in a bright, simple Rebecca Taylor dress and a Ralph Lauren Black Label cashmere cardigan. "He makes his own wine," Adam says of chef Bruce. "He calls it 'Bruce Juice!'" Adam's picks? The white and a 2005 Merlot.
A Quick Touch-Up
Makeup artist Colleen Paioni touches up Dayna at the Jonkershuis Bar & Eatery at the Groot Constantia Wine Estate, 20 minutes outside town.
Always Time for Sweets
Roger and Anastasia play around in between shots at the Eatery. "Their scones are the most delicious things I've ever had," Adam says.
The Perfect Sunset Shot
Roger catches Anastasia on a local jetty at sunset. She's keeping warm in a Vera Wang satin organza skirt and an Eileen Fisher cotton and linen hoodie.
"A Place Everyone Should See"
Driving the MG-A on the left side of the road isn't an option, so Adam strikes a pose. "Cape Town is a place that everyone should see once," he says. "This side of the coast reminds me of St. Tropez and the south of France."
Local kids on a lunch break at the stunning St. James beach ham it up for the camera.
A Little Piece of Africa
Anastasia takes a moment alone at the African Art Villages Red Hill & Imhoff Farm. Within the farm is A Little Piece of Africa, a traditional African sculpture garden specializing in the stone art of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. And although the location doesn't make it into the magazine, it's worth the trip. "The sculptures were life-size, huge, and blown out of proportion," Adam says. "They were inspiring."
"It Takes a Village"
The group takes a well-deserved break in the garden. "It takes a village to shoot these pictures!" Adam says.
