What's exciting about life is that there's so much to read, you should never be bored. I have a great group of friends who love to read, and my eldest sister and I are constantly exchanging books. She's in a book club. I don't have time for that, but I love that she does, because I reap the benefits of those 20 people in a room trying to choose a new title each month.
To me, the most remarkable stories are about the human experience; not because they expose our frailties but because they reveal our strengths—how in the face of adversity a person can become much stronger than they ever knew.
I prefer reading a book either before it becomes a big hit or years after. I don't want to be influenced by other people's opinions until I've had my own experience with it. I feel the same way about film, theater and music. The beauty of reading is that your imagination gets to work on its own without being fed from any other source but the writer's voice. A tremendous writer can have such an impact that they can make a line or two stay with you for life.
