Preparation. I'm in nerve-racking situations on a daily basis. I negotiate with titans of industry, so I make sure I know what I'm talking about. Best Advice Love what you do. There's always going to be someone else who's smarter than you, but there's no substitute for passion. People who are passionate always work the hardest, and that sets them apart. Best Childhood Memory I used to love sitting on the bathroom floor in my pajamas and watching my mother get ready for an event. She'd stand in front of her vanity and apply bright red and blue makeup—it was the '80s, you know. Best Guilty Pleasure I DVR all the Real Housewives shows, and I'll usually watch them at 2 in the morning if I can't sleep. I've learned to hit "mute" if my husband walks into the room, though. The sound of those women screaming drives him crazy. Best Souvenir When I was little, I'd pick flowers wherever I traveled with my mom, then dry them, cover them with resin, and turn them into paperweights. Now I mainly buy clothes for my daughter. Best Hobby Until I got married, the only pieces of cookware I owned were a couple of pots and a George Foreman grill from college. Now, every Friday night, I spend three hours making a feast—including two entrées, like veal Marsala and spinach kugel. It's basically Thanksgiving once a week, complete with leftovers for the weekend. Best Gift I have a beautiful, healthy, sweet-tempered young daughter and a supportive husband who is my best friend. I've been dealt some good cards. Best Vice Thanks to my Czech-German heritage, I can't get enough of savory foods like stews, sausage, noodles, and anything that involves melted cheese. Not great choices from a dietary perspective, but at the end of a long day I feel like I'm entitled.
