Marty says that many people—from 20-somethings to baby boomers—are frustrated with their careers and want a different kind of job. "We want to find more meaning," he says. "People don't want to make a buck—they want to make a buck and make a difference."
Instead of going back to school to get a degree and then changing career paths, Marty says you should look for a new career that you can learn on-site. "Find a master, find an internship, be a slave to that person in exchange for that on-site, one-on-one learning," he says. "Then that [on-site education] gets supplemented by 'just in time' learning—a book, an article, a workshop, an online course, a video."
If you are a teen or a parent of a teen, it's the season for summer job hunting. Whether you're interested in working at a restaurant, retail store, amusement park or movie theater, Shawn says there is no such thing as applying too late for a summer position. "The hourly workforce has three and a half times [more of a] turnover rate than that of the salaried workforce," he says.
