Always start with a rug: it grounds the room and establishes the color direction.

Use the center of the room! Don't line up all the furniture around the perimeter of the room (George and Margi call this "circling the campfire").

Don't put the largest piece of furniture on the smallest wall; move it to one of the larger walls.

If you have enough space, create a second or third seating group. Try to tie it into a functional space, where someone can read, write or play games at a table.
