Makeover miracle-workers Margi Vorder Bruegge and George Snead, Jr. added harmony, comfort and functionality to this distraught living room.
Make Over Your Own Living Room
  • Always start with a rug: it grounds the room and establishes the color direction.
  • Use the center of the room! Don't line up all the furniture around the perimeter of the room (George and Margi call this "circling the campfire").
  • Don't put the largest piece of furniture on the smallest wall; move it to one of the larger walls.
  • If you have enough space, create a second or third seating group. Try to tie it into a functional space, where someone can read, write or play games at a table.
  • Make the mantle special with a meaningful focal piece, like a work of art.
