The green bedroom before Nate Berkus's makeover.

Sharon and Phil have been married for 23 years, but they never agreed on how to decorate. So Sharon decorated the bedroom, and Phil was supposed to finish the bathroom… it's been left untouched for 10 years! This may be Nate's biggest challenge yet!

First things first: The walls that Sharon rag-rolled herself have got to go!

In this corner of the room, the couple had planned on installing a fireplace, but artistic differences had left it a plain brick wall. And Nate quickly discovered that Sharon was using a couch pulled from another room to hide her junk!

Look at the stylish sitting area now!

Nate highlighted the brick wall as an architectural feature and chose a warm cinnamon color that matched the brick to paint the entire room. He added an open shelving unit between the two loveseats that didn't overpower the wall.

Sharon had covered their hand-me-down bed in a green bedspread to match their walls and covered the gold chair in a light green bed sheet to "match." Nate cringes, "This is not custom upholstery."

Let's take a closer look at what's going on in the corner of the room...

Next to the bed, Sharon and Phil have hung a small shelf for knick-knacks and left the rest of the wall bare. "This might be a really great opportunity for me to teach America something about scale," says the Lord of D?cor. "This is too small for this big wall."

No one could believe this next item was still in their room. Phil had made Sharon a turkey-leg lamp for their nightstand! Nate says, "This is the best example I have seen in all of my makeovers of when home design projects truly turn to tragedy."

So after 23 years of marriage, Nate gives Sharon and Phil a real bed and new linens! He removed the chair next to the bed entirely to give them more space. He replaced the small shelves with a large black and white print and buried the turkey-leg lamp in the backyard!

Nate also created a sweet keepsake out of the dried roses Sharon had kept from their 15th anniversary. He hot-glued the roses around Phil's card and framed it.

Nate loved the natural light, so he removed the vertical blinds and replaced them with silk drapes all around the room.

Sharon and Phil had left their quaint deck off their bedroom untouched. Nate added a small table and chairs and created a romantic spot!

Nate and his crew removed the carpet and put down a faux wood floor. It's inexpensive, easy to install and comes with a padded backing. Look how much warmer the room feels!

The folks at California Closet removed the old boxes that served as storage units and reorganized the entire closet!
