In Peter's home country of Australia, a popular TV show called Collectors takes a close look at the collections of everyday people. Host Andrew Muirhead says some collections he comes across, such as china and collectible figurines, tend to turn into clutter and take over people's homes. "Out of a six-room house, they are living in two small rooms and the collection has taken over everything else," Andrew says. While he does see valuable collections, Andrew says he has also encountered very strange collections, including glass eyeballs, prosthetic legs and sculptures and jewelry made from human teeth!

In order to keep your collection focused and controlled, Andrews suggests these boundaries:

  • Keep the collection grouped together in one area of your home.
  • Have specific parameters—know what you are collecting and why you are collecting it.
