Take Supplements

While it's best to get your calcium and vitamin D from food, many women aren't able to get enough from their diet. Calcium supplements are a good way to help you get the calcium you need for strong bones.

Some calcium supplements and most multivitamins contain vitamin D, so it's important to check the labels to determine how much each contains. High doses of vitamin D—more than 2,000 IU a day—are not recommended and may even be harmful.
