Picking Your Path
Finally, Friday is here! Even though we still have one more day, it feels great to reach the end of the week. Plus, Saturday is only a half day on the resort, which means I can see the finish line (and pajamas and junk TV) in sight!
Today started with our daily hike. My team was assigned Fern Gulley. I had heard good things about this one, so I was in a good place mentally about the day. But, as we were getting into the van to leave, the hike guides threw us a curveball. We could do our regularly scheduled hike OR we could switch to Saddle, a harder, climb-up-a-giant-mountain type deal that would definitely be more challenging than Fern Gulley. Given the state of my falling-off toenails, I decided to stick with the original plan. Going down those steep inclines makes for a very painful experience, and I wanted to avoid as much of it as possible! So, off to Fern Gulley we went. There were four people on our hike, down from the normal eight. Everyone else decided to do Saddle. The Fern Gulley trail is a challenging one. Mostly because there is a lot of sand - a sea of it. The only way I want to be trekking through that much sand is when I'm headed back to a beach house after a swim in the ocean. Still, as challenging as it was, I had a nagging feeling that I made a mistake. Did I really skip an opportunity to do Saddle because of a little pain or was I intimidated? The thought plagued me the entire hike. Problem was, the decision was made. There was no way to take it back now. Friday is the last day for many of the hikes. On Saturday , a half day of exercise only (hallelujah!), we have the option of working out in the gym doing cardio or going on a hike. But, the hike trails are limited and spots fill up fast. And, Saddle isn't offered. To add insult to injury, we rode back from Fern Gulley with a bunch of hikers who had just finished Saddle - and they could not stop talking about how great it was. Ugh!! I don't want to leave here feeling any regret, and yet, that's all I was feeling. Regret, regret, regret. I don't want to be the person standing in my path to success. So, I did something about it. When we got back to the resort I found Paige, the program director, and asked her if I could hire a private guide to take me up the mountain. Tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. it's me, my guide, Cammie, and Saddle. No regrets. Click here to learn more about The Biggest Loser Ranch!
