You should never hesitate to talk with your doctor about treating a suspected hormone imbalance, Dr. Schwartz says. Overproduction of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone can have negative effects on men and women, from depression and mood swings to an increased risk for certain diseases, Dr. Schwartz says. "You don't need to premenopausal or perimenopausal to need hormones," she says. "It is all about feeling better."
