Designing with shiplap and farmhouse sinks are two of HGTV's Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines' signature moves. But there's another go-to in her repertoire, one that may not be on camera or even on the menu at her bakery, Silos Baking Co., in Texas. It's her favorite breakfast recipe: banana bread.

When August rolls around and it's time for Gaines to get her four children ready to head back to school, she'll bake a batch of this bread the night before—which is just the thing to warm up in the oven or microwave on busy mornings when there isn't time to cook a hot a.m. meal.

The ingredient list could not be simpler: sugar, butter, eggs, flour, baking soda, salt, vanilla and ripe bananas (they're easier to mash and sweeter than ones that are firmer). Gaines prefers to use a 9"x13" pan instead of a loaf pan and cuts the bread into squares. "You really can't mess it up," she writes on her blog. She serves it warm with a pat of butter and a glass of milk, and then everyone's off for class.
