- 4 (2-pound) large fresh turnips , peeled and very thinly sliced
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 3/4 cup Panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
Bake until bubbly and tender in center when pierced with a knife, about 1 1/4 hours. Set aside on a rack for 20 minutes.
Preheat broiler. Sprinkle crumbs evenly on top. Broil 4 inches from the heat for about 1 minute, or until golden brown. Cut into nine squares and serve warm.
