A mug of hot chocolate, with its pillowy topping of whipped cream and shot of Cognac, is a worthwhile indulgence.

Serves 2

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1 bar (about 3 ounces) milk chocolate
  • 1 bar (about 3 ounces) dark chocolate
  • 4 Tbsp. Cognac

Total time: 15 minutes

In a small pot, gently heat milk without simmering.

Meanwhile, put cream in a bowl and whisk (or use an electric beater) until it thickens. Stir in maple syrup and whisk until it re-thickens.

Break chocolate into small pieces, add to milk, and stir until it melts. Remove from heat. Stir in Cognac, pour into 2 mugs, and top with whipped cream.
