You've probably heard that there's a reason people in Central and South America, India, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean eat foods flavored with hot chile peppers and spices that add heat: spicy foods can make you sweat, which in turn helps you cool down. So while we wouldn't necessarily recommend putting down the lemonade and chugging a bottle of Tabasco, this little book is a surprisingly perfect antidote to 90-degree days. It has easy recipes for homemade pepper sauces and salsas (it even has versions of famous hot sauces, such as Frank's RedHot), and ones for spice-centric dishes, from classic fire bombs like Buffalo wings to foods that you may have never considered spicing up, such as fruit salad.
