The big story this week is that public schools in Washington, D.C., will be banning flavored milk and sugary breakfast cereals from their cafeterias as of next fall. This is a massive step forward, and I just know it's going to make a big difference to the health of the kids that attend those schools. Let's hope D.C.'s big move inspires other states to do the same.
At this point in time, schools in the United States account for 54 percent of the total flavored milk sales in America. I think that's a pretty shocking statistic. If you don't know why people are making such a fuss about flavored milk, take a look at this toolkit. Watch out for sugary fruit juices as well. Like flavored milk, they are full of added sugar that your child does not need.
