Tom Hooper, The King's Speech *WINNER

First-time Oscar nominee Tom Hooper has been lauded for his work on The King's Speech, about the rise of King George VI and his struggle to overcome his crippling stammer. Though Hooper has directed two other films, Red Dust and The Damned United, he was previously best known for his work on the HBO Films' Elizabeth I and Longford, the television revival of Prime Suspect, and the epic miniseries John Adams.
