The Beatles

Established: Formed in Liverpool in 1960. Band members went their separate ways in 1970.

Members: Originally a five-piece band, the Beatles were comprised of singer and guitarist John Lennon, guitarist Paul McCartney, guitarist George Harrison, bassist Stuart Sutcliffe and drummer Pete Best. Stuart left the band in 1961, and Pete was replaced with Ringo Starr in 1962.

Biggest hits: "Hey Jude," "The Long and Winding Road," "Yesterday," "Penny Lane," "Eleanor Rigby" and many more.

Awards: Seven Grammys.

Memorable moments: The Beatles took America by storm when they opened with "All My Loving" on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

Trademark style: It's a toss-up between their early matching suits and mop tops and the bright military jackets that graced the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Best lyrics: "Though I know I'll never lose affection / For people and things that went before / I know I'll often stop and think about them / In my life I love you more" — "In My Life"

Where they are today: Fans gathered to remember John Lennon on the 20th anniversary of his death in October 2010. Harrison lost his battle with lung cancer in November 2001. Both remaining band members Ringo and Paul are currently touring. Paul will be honored at the Kennedy Center in December 2010.
