Dear Oprah
I love your Fridays! What a great idea. I had to email you because I am still crying on and off during the day since the most meaningful election of my life (recently turned 60). I don't think I ever prayed so hard in my life for a new direction. During this process I couldn't help but remember Martin Luther King's speech. And, guess what? After all these years we have looked at the content of a man's character and not the color of his skin. I have to go cry again. This is truly a new beginning!
Very sincerely,
Karen
I am not feeling happy about the election results. I think we have missed a chance to elect a really great man.
That being said, I hope Sen. Obama is successful. I think that those whose feelings are like mine, should step back and let the Obama supporters be happy. I have seen and heard some pretty ugly remarks coming out of the media. It makes me a little sick.
Here is a question for you. Is it out of the question that you will ask Gov. Palin to come on your show? For me, it would be kind of nice to see this woman talk about how she manages being Governor and a mom of five. And how she was able to cope with the lack of decency on the medias part during the campaign. Maybe you could have Sen. Clinton on also. She was trashed in a big way by the media to. I admire both of them. I would have become a crumpled mess if I was treated in such a despicable manner.
I hope you will consider it. I know you are a kind person, and that you would show these women the respect they deserve. Maybe my request isn't possible, but no harm in asking I guess. As women I think we need to have each others back, even when we aren't in total agreement.
PS. I know how excited you are about Sen. Obama's win. Let me say that ...I'm happy that your happy!! Hows that!!
I certainly hope you all will discuss how the Stock Market has fallen more in the last two days than it ever has after an election.
I won't be watching since I and many others have decided to no longer be fans of the show.
Oddly enough, I didn't quite anticipate the reaction to the election results. You see, I don't see people as black or white. Obama was the best candidate for the job. I never imagined this reaction. Then it hit me.... I don't see people as black or white, how wonderful! I see people as the character that they are. It is not about black or white, but character
The stock market crashed because the world has become greedy. A lot of these big businesses are only looking out for themselves and not other. We the little people mean thare suffering because of it. We the little people are scared that their will be not tomorrow for us. It mean that we don't know if we will have a job, or food, clothes and shelter when we open our eyes from a restless sleep. It has nothing to do with the election, our future President or the Oprah show. Remember that this all happen with Bush in office and the powerful people of these big companies who have only thought of themselves. Do not punish the wrong people for someone else mistakes. You may be mad now but look at the whole picture before you write someone off. Understand what it is you are mad about and even if you don't agree with, understand that each and every one of us have something that we may or may not agree with but everyone need to respect each other. and not create a silence war or turn our back on one another.
If it is going to be another show that bashes the Republican party and just oozes Obama praise I will be shutting the TV off once again this week. If it is going to be a show on how Americans as a WHOLE can get the country on the right track, then I will stay tuned. I hope in 4 years or 8 years or whenever we change Presidents again that Oprah will show the country and her millions of viewers (who voted for McCain as well as Obama) what a true AMERICAN she is and do the exact same thing on her show as she has done this week. That would show her loyal viewers how truly fair she is. I would hope she would take the initiative and tell her viewers that she will do the same thing for the next President. Only then would we all see that her colors are Red, White and Blue and nothing else.
I love that Friday's are "Live in Chicago!" as just hearing that makes me want to tune in. My dad grew up in Illinois and I've unfortunately never been there, but have always wanted to.
I'l have to get used to the new format I guess. I love when Gayle's on there with Oprah, but all of them siting around a table seems to take oprah off front and center stage where I'm used to her being.
Maybe she should be like Campbell Brown on CNN and stand in front of the table with her papers and such and question the people at the table. I might find that more effective and professional.
But that's just me. I'll get used to it.
I am so inspired & hopeful by our election of President Barak Obama - I think he will give us ALL a voice again. Our country has been so driven by GREED we lost our since of purpose which has caused us to implode from inside Washington out. We ALL need to embrace our purpose to make this world a better place - We ALL need to show up everyday walking shoulder to shoulder holding each other accountable to fulfilling our promise the "Constitution of the United States". It makes me feel so proud to know that we have looked beyond those things that separate us to where we are the same The Human Race of Heart and Mind. Through the results of OUR election we have created our Defining Moment -The United Human Race committed to OUR common goal to make this country and world a better place. OUR future is filled with HOPE & Possibility - "History has taught us that it is easy to overpower/exploit those who are most vulnerable causing a state of hopelessness where there are no lasting rewards. History also teaches us that our defining moment will & can be realized with immeasurable& sustainable rewards - when WE "The People" as an Educated Society CHOOSE to use our knowledge/power to empower those most vulnerable." President Obama has demonstrated that he leads by this philosophy therefore; united as the Human Race We CAN Rise above any challenge. God Bless the Human Race and this amazing country.
Why this republican Voted for Barack Obama! - I am NOT "Joe the Plummer" I AM "Kay the Unemployed - MOM!" - My disappointment in state of our country and in our leadership at all levels. Our leaders are no longer committed to serving The People by protecting our constitutional rights - It is time that we stand up and DEMAND a government of the People for the People by the People committed to EVERY human being constitutional RIGHTS. Tremendous GREED & corruption like Republican Sen. Stevens is the mainstay of Washington & Wall Street. My families losses to this greed have made me feel powerless & hopelessness by the loss of my job, our healthcare my fear of what this means for our future. Tremendous GREED is destroying our right to life and our ability to work to provide for our families and their future. By voting for Obama it was a vote of HOPE, I felt I best represented my family and the millions of families like ours that have suffered tremendous loss of jobs, healthcare and whose future is at risk due to "Tremendous Greed". No matter our loss my family has always chosen to be survivors NOT victims we do this by surrounding ourselves with the people and resources that can help us rise above the challenge. With the state of our economy and healthcare I think Obama is the LEADER we need to help us Rise to the challenges we are faced with. We need someone willing and committed to looking beyond those things that separate us to bring us together as a Nation of Heart (Courage) & Mind (Knowledge) - Believing that we ALL add value with our individual contributions- we need a government that provides ALL of us the ability rise above our vulnerabilities in order that we ALL realize the promise. Therefore, I voted for Obama in hopes of a CHANCE to rise above OUR losses and move forward as a family and as a country.
"Is Healthcare a Right or a Responsibility?" (Tom Brokaw) Sen. Obama "It is a Right" Sen. McCain "It is a Responsibility" I believe it is both - It starts with protecting our fundamental Constitutional RIGHT to Life and the necessity enforce our responsibility at all levels to maintain our well being and commitment to defeating disease. Therefore, the answer to this question is a Healthcare System Powered by Science with Access for ALL. The Win-Win of a Healthcare System Powered by Science (education & medicine) is a "Healthy More Productive Society" and the ability to control and reduce healthcare cost.
I have been a die-hard republican most of my adult life but my decision to vote for Obama is not about turning my back on republicans but about me standing up for every human beings right to life. My life experience of two terminally ill family members my husband & son as well as my loss of an 18 year very successful career due to a national sales force lay-off that was in preparation to our CEO's - retirement and the execution of his golden parachute (this lay-off was on the heels of 1,000's of jobs in operations being sent to India). What I want people to know is that we are ALL just 1 CEO golden parachute away of losing our jobs, homes, retirement and your healthcare. What makes the contribution of ONE worth more wealth than one family will ever be able to spend - while the contributions of THOUSANDS who have contributed to the bottom line everyday for years is worth nothing? It is not about socialization - or spreading the wealth it is about abolishing the GREED - stopping these CEO golden parachutes the sending of our jobs overseas giving US the middle class a chance to go back to work. It is NOT about socialized medicine but it is about protecting EVERY human being basic RIGHT to LIFE by ensuring access to healthcare for ALL. I do not believe Barack is a socialist but a Legislative Leader who finally understands his role is to Protect the Human Race Constitutional RIGHTS.
Dear Friends
I must admit I was suprised by the extent of the US post-election euphoria, including mine. The tears and the feeling of blacks overcoming was more than I expected which I think requires a reality check. In retrospect, the reaction suggests that the American people were really on trial to determine whether they were a "racist". nation are not.
I wonder, while a a loss would have been evidence resulting in a guilty veridict, a win does not imply that blacks have overcome racism_ it is inconclusive. For a win to be conclusive the canidates would have needed to have similar capacities (which is the reality that most blacks face). However, Obama is calibrated at a much higher level than McCain. A win implies that Americans were not stupid for choosing the Tiger Woods or Jordan of politics
Ordinary blacks in the US may still be faced with the burden of having to be much more qualified to be considered. The victory is that Obama has inspired us to be just that.
1. Following suit with Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, will you be having the Obama hour 1-2 times a week now?
2. How does it feel to have influenced over 1,000,000 voters as shown on the news the other day? Wow! I now need nobody else. I can get my recommendations - from perfume to presidents - from Oprah!
3. I can't wait to hear you and George discuss the stock market. I guess you know that it was the largest drop (now 1000 points) EVER following a presidential election. Largest drop EVER!
4. Also looKing forward to the discussion about racism in the election. It was great to see the number of whites who looked beyond race, with an average of 39% nationwide voting for Obama. The ones who didn't, likely voted against Obama's platform rather than the man. On the other hand, 82% of blacks, nationally, voted for Obama, which was obviously based to a large degree on race. (Search "election by race" for state-by-state statistics.)
I'm sure you've heard the interviews from Harlem where they interviewed people about why they were voting for Obama, but used McCain's platform. They were agreeing that the reason was his pro-life stance or that he wanted to stay in Iraq until the very end. Some even said his choice of Palin was a good one! So much for informed voters and race not being a factor! LOL.
Just so you know! I have been a loyal watcher of the show for 20 plus years, however, after all of this election stuff, I will never watch the show AGAIN!!!! You have been completely unfair and have lost many viewers over your public endorsement of Obama. People can vote for whomever they want and that is fine but you did not give the Republicans a fair shake. You should have had Sarah Palin on before and I backed you when you did not b/c your reasoning made sense, BUT now you are going overboard. It is not fair that celebrities can make such endorsements b/c people trust you and the media is not giving the whole truth. If McCain spent $600 millon and had your endorsement he would have easily won too. Most people that voted for Obama could only say they want CHANGE but could not come up with one thing they knew they wanted to change. They did not even follow the political process or the issues. Obama has made a lot of promises that he cannot keep, SO I HOPE EVERYONE GETS THE CHANGE THEY WANT!
Last night at my neigborhood BUNKO in Woodstock, GA, everyone agreed, about 20 women. We would not be watching Oprah anymore! Well at least my home will be a little cleaner now I will have an extra 5 hours a week!
Good luck on the show. Lots of happiness with the election and lots of wounds that are not healed and likely won't in our lifetime. (Sad but true.)
Hope the country will heal. Folks, it is a historical election. Whether or not you agree with the outcome (I personally do) or not, it is historical. Just as it would have been had Hilary won or even McCain won as it would be a first.
Let's unite- I so hope we can all heal and work together. The economy is scarier than anything else. I am happy to see some of my friends who were not for Obama moving on, praying for him, wanting to support our new President.
Have a great day everyone. I know we all have blessings. No matter what, glad we all have freedom of speech.
Georgia Mom
George Stephanopoulos is someone I can't watch and that includes his Sunday new show. I remember the Clinton years Stephanopoulos having that "celebrity" status when he was supposed to be Clinton's Senior Political Advisor. The media even made such a big deal of women throwing underclothes at him. I am in hopes that the Oprah show will get back to being the show it once was several months ago but lately it gets old watching Oprah gushing over certain guest sitting right next to her while others may be positioned further away. Maybe Oprah needs to have some guests from Australia and Canada on her show because after reading several posts those two countries seem thrilled with the election. I'm still trying to figure our why. Did our president elect promise them money also?
