I'm watching the show as I type this message.
Its great to see that the Neti Pot has gained and is gaining importance in the West too. My mother had chronic allergy to dust and dirt. So along with the house to be kept clean and dust-free at ALL times, she also was asked to do this exercise when she consulted her doctor. The actual word is 'JalaNeti' derived from the world's most ancient language Sanskrit. Jala in Sanskrit means 'water' and Neti means 'drawing of a string from the mouth or nose'. Since it is jala-neti, it refers to water being passed through the nose. My mother used to do this everyday and has found great relief Its indeed good to hear people come out with their problems in an open forum as this and find answers. To people like us at home and who also have some of those problems, its a welcome show !! Love the Oprah show !!!
I am so glad that someone brought up the belly button issue. I have the same problem, discharge with odor through the belly buttom,. I am not really sure what to do about it, Dr. OZ wasn't too clear about the solution to this problem?
Any thoughts? (it's not a constant problem, it comes and goes) I felt great comfort to know I wasn't alone.
Thanks!
Dr. Oz, This is not meant to be critical but....................please. When you tell women to treat their, you know, like a self cleaning oven. Even ones self cleaning oven needs to have the door wiped down once in a while.
It doesn't hurt to use the word vagina.:8}
If you think the vagina isn't "sweet", there may be possibly a medical issue. You may need to speak to your wife in a loving, non-condeming way about a "wipe-down" as you put it. Or perhaps if that isn't working her gyn maybe be able to ensure it is not a minor infection.
Speaking of foot problems -- For years I've had dry, cracked, scaley feet. The skins seems to peel in layers. I try not to pick at them but it just does not clear up despite trying many creams, foot filing, and soaking. I can't go for pedicures because I am so ticklish, and I think the problem is internal. I googled and found that the cause may be a deficiency in the cells and apparently this foot condition is very common in women. Has anyone had a permanent cure that they recommend? I once tried a cream that is from Israel and was supposed to cure this, but it made the layers soften up to the point that they cracked open in a small spot and it got an infection which ended up spreading right up my leg, causing migraines and red marks up my leg (I ended up in Emergency and needed antiobiotics to clear it up). So, I'm leary about trying new creams. Maybe something dietary or vitamins? I'd like to cure this once and for all. Thanks.
Hi!
I had to answer your message, I've done a little research on this problem, since they thought I had a cyst there too. (Turns out I didn't- long story.)
Based on my experience, you should probably see a urologist. That cyst is called a "urachal" cyst. It has something to do with the umbillical cord connection not closing properly. It's rare in adults, but it happens.
I am not a doctor or an expert on this issue, I was told at one point that I had one because I had abdominal pain. I have done a little bit of poking around for information, which is why I knew the name & that it is a urological issue.
Most PCP had not heard of urachal cysts, but a urologist may have.
Kudos to Dr. Oz for talking about this!
Good luck and take care!
Hello,
On the 12/17/07 show, Oprah asked her viewers, "Where is your cochlear?" I am a clinical pediatric audiologist and want to make a correction: it is a cochlea, not a cochlear. The cochlea is the snail-shaped end organ in the inner ear which converts acoustic sound energy into mechanical and chemical energy.

I, too, had that problem. It would flare up every 3 or 4 years and now has been over 10 years since it did.
It is the foulest smelling liquid that dries to a crusty - I would also use alcohol and peroxide on it and then it would be sore so I would put lotion on it. I was told that the cord was not tied off exactly right when I was born. The doctor did not seem to see it as a real problem. It was to me - so embarrassing. Dr. Oz said to have it checked out and it would not be that big an issue to fix???
