Hi Kristy, It's fellow San Diego Book Club Member and Wisconsin transplant, Shari. I have to say after reading what I considered the difficult "One Hundred Years of Solitude" I'm a bit nervous to tackle "Love in the Time of Cholera". It was so hard that I needed a dictionary! I suppose I liken this to a colicky first child, the second one can only be easier! I'll keep you posted on my progress!
So, Kristy, "delve" does that mean you haven't read the book yet? And I wouldn't call this a "juicy romance"..."juicy" I would associate to a Harlequin romance novel (not that I've ever read one) and not a serious literary work...I had written another message but I'm holding on to those thoughts because, again, like Shari, there are those who haven't finished the book, or evidently, even started it yet, so, for the moment I'll stand with my two previous messages and repeat...this is not a love story but I do look forward to what you and the SDBC members will have to share and I look forward to the SDBC's feedback on what I have written...
Shalom....Michael
Hi I am new to the Oprah book club. I haven't read this book yet ans sorry to but into your conversation. I would like to join a book club in my area and I am having problems finding the link that allows me to do this. Please can someone help me and give me direction in to what I need to do. I live in Long island, NY and I am looking for members in this area.
Hi Michael, Thanks for your message. I appreciate your comments. I have started the book and I believe I misspoke. It isn't a romance, but rather a love story. I guess that was wishful thinking, hee hee! But so far I am loving the story. I did read your message about love, do you really think it isn't a love story? It seems to me it is. I will write again once I make some more progress. Ciao!
Hi maaril,
Like you I am also new and intersteded in finding a group of happy readiers her in my area. You must read this book"Love in the time of Cholera" at first it seems a little confusing, but all in all its pretty challanging.
Hi Kristy and San Diego Moms! I'm posting to let you know that we are thinking of you and praying for you here in Appleton, Wis. I'm very worried about the fires and want people to know that you may be among those evacuated because of the Southern California disaster. To all the bloggers and readers out there, please pray for the safety of our fellow readers and friends. Stay safe, Kristy et al.
Hi Kristy...as was said I, too, wish for you, your families, friends and homes to be safe and I keep you in my heart and I pray for your, everyone's, safety in that area...living in Lousiana, we send you what the nation sent us...much, much Love. Take care, dear Ladies of the Sand Diego Book Club and when I know you're safe Kristy.....then I'll respond to your question...at the moment, your (all of the SDBC) safety is all that matters and if I can help, in any way, please contact me: michvr516@aol.com. Shalom. Michael
Hello,
I'm in San Diego and would love to join the local Oprah Book club. I already check out Love in the Time of Cholera a few weeks ago from the library. My friend, Daisy, has also purchased a copy. We've been reading on our own, but we would both love to join the existing San Diego club. It must be fun to read with a whole group of women and make new friends. Where do I sign? ![]()

Hello my friends, it's Shari again. Wow, Kristy, you are dedicated, posting a blog the day you were evacuated! I am thinking of you all, as you know. I am enjoying the book very much. It has so much meaning in every sentence. I often read each line a couple of times so I don't miss anything! Translating this masterpiece must have been quite a task, I must say! The flow of the book seems much easier to me this time around (compared to "One Hundred Years of Solitude") So I can savor every page........I love eveyone joining the discussion!
I'm glad I'm not the only one where do you live have you found anyone yet? Thanks for the suggestion I will go get the book today.
Hi Shari, Winnie, Michael and everyone! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I am happy to report I can go back home today. Our area is out of danger now. I feel so fortunate to have family in the area to take us in. I have been glued to the tv so needless to say I have done little reading. I will post again when I get settled. My fellow book clubbers have also been evacuated so they haven't had the opportunity to post yet, but hopefully they will soon. Talk to you soon. Kristy
I'm glad you can go back to your home. Our book club, the Bodacious Babes, are reading the book along with you all. It's a hard one. I look forward to checking back with the discussion.
