This is my 1st posting ever. I joined Oprah.com today!! Primarily because of the "little people" segment. Surprisingly, I was about to change the channel, but I paused and listened for a second... Thank God I did. I learned a lot today, I realized I was prejudiced through ignorance. What an eye opener! I have always viewed little persons as 'cute' and amusing. I have never seen their show or even heard of this family until today. I was so overcome with shame to have realized how ignorantly I have behaved in the past. I was almost brought to tears to hear Zach describe (and the way the camera filmed them in the streets) the things we say and do around 'little people' and using the "M" word without thought to how that affects their spirit and self-esteem. I don't think the man who patted him on the head was being hateful with his action, he had a smile on his face..realizing at that very moment -I would never do that to a regularly statured person?! I will NEVER again do the things I have in the past and sincerely apologize to all whom I have offended. They deserve my respect, and I have such deep and profound respect and admiration for their parents for raising such wonderful human beings. May they have long and wonderful lives. Thank you Oprah, after all these years I found my 'lightbulb moment'!
