I've never seen a poor family in a Nate's makeover. Maybe because it would depressed to much the audience, and the rating would be lower...
I presume the Oprah show reflecte what people want to see, so it's a reflection on people tastes (like the tabloids selling lots more papers when celebrity are inside it,
then when it is people doing good deeds)...

Just watch the show, and enjoy yourself. Stop spending your time bloging negative thoughts; do something more productive like read a book. Let me make a suggestion "A New Earth". At any rate, hope you enjoy one or the other or both!!! I'm really looking forward to seeing what Nate will get up to on Friday's show, and get a few tip on kitchen storage................

I agree somewhat with the observation that it has never been a "poor" family in Nate's makeover's, but there have been some very deserving families who have received his services, nontheless. This is why we have Ty Pennington to take up the cause. He is in the business of completely changing people's lives by building them completely new homes, and Nate is doing a service by completing smaller tasks more suited to his expertise. I understand the difference. I would like for someone to come and tear down my home and make it all sparkly and new as well, but it isn't going to happen any time soon, I suppose. Most of the makeovers are close to home for Nate anyway. I live in rural Ohio, and I don't see the crew hitting the "township" road any time soon! I appreciate all that these people are trying to do to help in their own way, so I can't complain too much. At least someone is making the effort to do make things better for someone else!

I agree about no "poor" family being chosen. I live in rural Missouri, and no one has been beating my door down. I entered Nate's home makeover, but then sent a message back that it would need to be a "house built", because of everything wrong with my home. I live on less than $1,000.00 monthly. I also appreciate what is being done for families, but, never a "poor" family chosen. Oh well, the Lord helps them that help themselves, so I'll keep plugging away. God bless those helping change lives.

Just another opportunity to make everybody else feel bad for being poor.
On one show, Suzie Orman is preaching about the evils of credit cards. On another show, Nate Buttkiss is making everybody in America ashamed for having wood cabinets and a stainless steel double sink. People can't afford these ridiculous lifestyles. Their own kitchen is fine.
Do something with your money that won't make people sick. Start a war on poverty in this country. Get your "friends" interested in making the standard of living ABOVE the poverty line for every American.
Dr. King had another dream before he died. It was to end poverty in THIS country.

What a fun idea-tear out odviously well made appliances and install new computer driven ones! This older lady will have such fun learning how to operate them. And paying for the upcoming repairs will keep them grounded in the real world.
How did you ever have the forsight to choose such a worthwhile couple out of the thousands that are submitted? God knows, there are so few people who are "special" because they" give to their own children". And it will certainly be put to good use because they "cook for their family on special holidays." Last, since they don't have any extended children or grandchildren living with them, these appliances will last longer so you can return for a followup show.
Am I bad?
I do love both of you!

Nate did a great job, but what happened to materials from the demolished kitchen? It seems to me that deconstruction would have been a "greener" choice.

Does Anyone have suggestions:
Unfortunately, my family moves a lot because my husband is in the military so every time I try to make my house nice, we have to move again. My husband, my 2 kids and I are moving to Japan in November. How can I make my house/Kitchen looking like home. Since I am new to this enviornment. I was not sure if others have had the same problem and have suggestions...thanks - lizzardbug

I am interested in purchasing an extended cushion like the one in the Browns' makeover. Where do I get one?
