Dr. Oz and Lyme Disease GET HIM TO DISCUSS IT ON OPRAH

Posted on Sep 25, 2007 7:31 AM

Dr. Oz was on the show and mentioned that Tick Born illnesses was the fastest growing INFECTIOUS DISEASES. However, people still struggle to get diagnosed and treated.

Even once as test (Western Blot) confirms Lyme Disease, some doctors will not even discuss Lyme Disease they put it off as Fibromyalgia.

It took me 1 1/2 years and a stroke to be diagnosed. The Doctor still would not treat me and sent me to another doctor. He said there was too much paper work to fill out for someone with Lyme Disease. I was sent to Infectious Disease Doctor who looked at me and said I did not look like I had Lyme Disease.....no repeat test.

I then talked to another Neurologist who said there was too much controversy surrounding Lyme Disease and he would not treat.

All this time, I was getting sicker and sicker and ended up bed ridden at age 40.

I finally found a great doctor and am now on IV antibiotics and about ready to return to work.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE DR. OZ DO A SHOW ON LYME DISEASE. I enjoy his perspective and knowledge.

PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN SEVERE PAIN AND ARE IN BED AND WHEEL CHAIRS. SOME ARE EVEN DYING.

How much does Dr. Oz know about Lyme disease, really? We need to have the doctors who are in the forefront, the Lyme specialists to be on Oprah. I would nominate my Lyme doc to go, but he's closing his practice at the end of October. He is so knowledgeable!

I am here to sign this petition, too!!

We need SOMEONE to blast this disease into FULL public awareness....

I think the Oprah show would do a WORLD of good. Back it up w/ Dr. Oz AND the most educated LLMD's in this country....maybe things could change and people could start getting treated PROPERLY.

I've been there in severe pain, in bed, brain fog, exsusation, ect... I've been treated but am still suffering and tired of it too. Something needs to be done to cure people. Luckily I found Dr. Jones when my son tested positive and he is doing great, but I haven't had much luck with my health. I guess I had it for 3+++ yrs before I even got checked for it, and I live just off the Cape.

Yes, please do a show on lyme disease. There are so many of us suffering and we need help. Awareness is the beginning. There are controversies, however, these could be discussed in a pro and con manner. Please inculde some lyme disease sufferers. There are some famous ones. Rebecca Wells, Amy Tan, Daryl Hall. Please. Also Dr. Brian Fallon of the Columbia University Lyme Research Center.

I starting to build a list of lyme literate doctors across the US. If you can recommend a doctor that has helped you and you would like to share the information that would be great. I am also going to build a list of labs where ticks can be sent to be tested. My daughter, is Jacqueline, and she is the one that was interviewed on Mystery Diagnosis and has been shown on Discovery Health Channel and TLC. Thank you.

HI OPRAH .. I have tried to post a message 2 times. . both messages have not made it to the message boards. .hopefully this one will GET ON.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. . you must do a show on this disease. LYME IS our next GLOBAL EPIDEMIC!
LYME DISEASE is what SYPHILIS was back in the early 1900's. .IT IS THE SAME TYPE OF SPIROCHETE. People were misdiagnosed then and today in 2007 people are being misdiagnosed with Lyme are now!!
IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE with
GLOBAL WARMING. . ticks won't die off. . OUR winters now are not as cold and long as they used to be!!
AUTISM is one of the side effects from LYME INFECTED parents. . When many parents of autistic children and the children themselves are given the WESTERN BLOT to test for Lyme. . it comes up positive. .there is a correlation between the two. . When given the antibiotic treatments to the autistic children their symptoms decrease. .

1 out of 150 children are diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of these children have also been diagnosed with Lyme Disease/borrelia related complex, but most remain undiagnosed. It is estimated that up to 90% of children with autism may be also infected with Lyme Disease/Borrelia however, since testing is difficult, current research shows that 20-30% of these children harbor this bacteria. This number would represent over 150,000 children in the United States alone. Most of these children have never even been bitten by a tick. Parents have no idea how their child would have contracted this bacteria.

However, it is important to note that borrelia is not the only infection that autistic children have. Many children also have Mycoplasma, Herpes, Chlamydia, Babesia, Bartonella and many more.

In addition, this is a family disease. We intend to educate parents on their own health and how this is not just "autism" we are looking at, we are looking at a multi-faceted disorder which affects both the young, the old and all of us in-between. Although our goal started out to look at just Lyme disease and autism...we have evolved to include other such infections, therefore looking at an infection based cause to autism.

.It is a tremendous disservice to our country to not let people know these symptoms of LYME. . and that they are not making up their stories of aches and pains. .the sad thing is that most undiagnosed LYME patients are told that "IT IS ALL IN YOUR HEAD" and sent away as though they are BI-POLAR or needing attention. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO ENDURE NOT BEING BELIEVED. . My daughter is 23, and suffers everyday.. . she was a 3 Letter athlete . .graduated PALISADES HIGH SCHOOL in 2003 and won the 'BEST ALL AROUND ATHLETE" that year. Today we tried to take a walk up our street . . . .we walked 500 yards and had to turn around!
PLEASE HELP US OPRAH. . you are the only one who will be heard by the public.
Robin

Please Dr. Oz. visit the ILADS website, find a doctor who treats lyme and interview him. Share this topic with America and help everyone to be aware how dangerous this growing disease is.

My hope is that Open Eye Productions will come back with some awards from the Sundance Festival this year.

And "Under My Skin" will be shown on Oprah.

I also have this vision of all of us who have been supporting each other on the lyme web sites will be in the audience and have a chance to meet each other in person.

It would be great if we could also have a day of fun..which is trick with lyme because we are so limited on what we can do.

We would need different levels of activities for those who are at different levels with this condition.

I also visualize some of our favorite doctor's and lyme warriors and famous faces with lyme being on stage.

I think our time will come. Especially with the elections coming up and health care needing improvements.

We are not the only ones dealing with health issues.

At least we have hope of improvement and are seeing others improve.

Kind of having trouble staying on track this am so not sure if any of this makes sense. Hope so.

Wondering if Oprah has room in her audience for reclining power chairs. I think I could get there via the train.

Wondering if there is a gluten free, sugar free place to eat while we are there or if we will need to bring our own food.

And the IV lines...that will be tricky too...but doable.

And of course it would be great if we had some sort of white coat style....but created to have us all showing we are lyme patients

And we need something to show all those who have died along the journey...

Another showing all the no's we got from docs before we got a dx and started treatment...
