But if God is all there is then who and what is God jealous of?
To me jealousness means wanting something that you can't have or not wanting someone else to have something that you have. If God is the All Powerful Omniscience what on earth could he/she want that he/she can't have?
Have we read Exodus 20? How we could we not "as our consciousness" would have us do, help our children? So, does God with us -- he is fiercely protective of that which is of His Spirit -- you can't breathe without breathing in His essence --- the "oneness", the "connectedness", is one with Him. Be still and Know that I am God -- but the Source is God...and He is jealous for that which He formed. We are one with Him, but you have to accept his Fatherhood of you, the essence of you, is the essence of Him.
why, that would be You --- and whatever you fill your day with that does not include Him, that would be You, and still You, and more You, even if was only You, it is still You = He is jealouse in His love for you. and you wonder why He would be jealous? Does He have your love?
I have grown children and I am NOT jealous of them, nor have I ever been. I love them with all my heart and I know that a part of me is in them, but they are out in the world free to think and be whoever they want to be. They know that whatever they choose to be ( and believe me its not always what I would choose for them!) they can come home to me and still be loved. I know God sees me in the same way.
Maybe we are talking about the same thing but getting caught up in the word "jealous" which to me is a word that implies fear and weakness and could never be associated with God. God is only Love. There is no room for the negative. It seems we just have different interpretations of the word.
It sounds like you are jealous and projecting onto God. Can we be so presumptious to think we know what any God feels? Can we be so presumptuous to think those who wrote scripture understood God? I challenge you to pretend you don't know God and ask yourself this: "If there were no books, no scripture, how would I know God exists?" ~ Serena
I guess I don't understand. If God is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End and everything in creation is of God through God and if God the Father, the Holy Spirit and Christ the Son are One God and we are the essence of this Spirit in physical expression then who is jealous? I'm not being flippant, I sincerely do not understand Who can be jealous and more importantly why would He be jealous? Wouldn't jealousy create a division of Spirit against Itself?
lol... don't go egoic on me (smile)
He is jealouse in His love for you. and you wonder why He would be jealous? Does He have your love?
Would you stop loving your children if they didn't love you back? If you would then your love is conditional. God's love is unconditional because it is eternal. He/she does not need our love because that would imply that there is something in the Universe that God needs that God can't have which in turn would imply that there is something outside God in the Universe. If we are all a part of God as you agree then God is All there is in the Universe and there is nothing that he needs. God just IS.
Wow. are you for real? I would fire my mother if she was jealous of me !!!
one of Webster's definitions of "jealous" is: Vigilant in guarding something.
Yeah I'm OK with that one! I agree that as parents we do have desires for them and want to protect them but isn't part of learning to be a parent being able to gradually let go? I guess I just don't agree that God guards us that vigilantly. Not in an uncaring way but because God knows that there is nothing to guard us from. Ultimately all goes back to God and all is perfect. ![]()
First of all, what scripture exactly are you talking about?
and How is it possible that God could be jealous? God is spirit, Jesus says so, He says his kingdom is Heaven, and heaven is a spiritual kingdom, so therefore God is a spiritual being,
his image being the spiritual one, not the physical one, are you saying GOD is a Human being?
because for One to be jealous, they must want something, and therefore Lack something, are you telling me that GOD NEEDS something? he created everything but he needs something? how can this be?
Another question: What about the commandment "do not covet"? Isn't jealousy synonymous with coveting? Wouldn't that make our Heavenly Father a 'do as I say not as I do' parent? I'm not able to reconcil these two concepts. I just don't feel it can cut both ways...well, I guess since it's God it can cut any which way, however, I really don't feel it does.
Isn't saying God is jealous assigning human attributes to the Divine, when, instead, we should trying to be more Divine in our own actions? I find it very confusing when I hear/read discussions like this.
Isn't taking, or claiming ownership over YOUR children egoic, and isn't saying God is jealous of you, sort of like Blasphemy in that you are saying YOU have something GOD doesn't have, therefore giving you some power, or leverage against God??
where did this idea that God could be jealous come from, because I am positive it is taken out of context, or a bad translation?
I think Oprah had it completely wrong when she said that God is not jealous. What I have learned in the religious sense is that God does not want any other lord before him. He wants to be power over all and that power is love. He doesn't want any other idol worshipped. If that makes any sense to you.
He wants to be power over all and that power is love.
You mean he doesn't already have power over all? And what idol worship could make him so jealous? He's not an idol so why would he care? Do you mean that God has insecurities?
