hi i am 54 yrs white female and have thin hair on top started coloring about 2 yrs ago by a color specialist that worked with thin hair and she recommended me to color. now i hear so much about chemicals and now wondering should i stop as i verrrrry much want to keep my hair from getting any worst. the thing is when i do color it seems to not show the thinning and seems to look thicker but then the more i wash it starts showing more. i went to dermo.doctor yrs back and he said male pattern baldness but said nothing would help. i used murad products and to me it help but my husband said he could not tell any difference but my mom and friends said they could ,but expensive and i stopped.but the main thing i want to know should i continue coloring or not. i sure would like some information as soon as possibe. thank you so much. yes i do wish oprah would do a show especially for women with thin hair.

how often do you color your hair? if you have male pattern baldness then coloring your hair once a month wont hurt it. in your case its not the chemical stopping your hair from growing. i'm all for what makes you feel better about yourself. i have a client with male pattern baldness. we color her hair and she bought a partial wig. it makes a big difference and i colored her wiglet to match her hair, i color her roots once a month. she uses nioxin and also is considering a transplant. you should keep your hair follicle clean of buildup which could slow down hair growth. nioxin is very good for this.

Hi, I posted some info that may help as well. (Under Tips for thinning) I myself a professional Hair Stylist, I would not color as often, If you are experiening thinning and your stylist is covering all the hair with color I would not recommend all over coverage, just the new growth. I do like the NIOXIN, but make sure to purchase the recommended solution for your hair type. you may also follow the message tips I posted again today. Im not here to bash any advise other stylist recommend but, I wouldn't wear a partical if thinning, our scalps need air to breath, and covering it up will only make it worst. I would only advise you to wear a partical if you are completely bald on top. If you have some hair on top it is a chance of getting it back. Very important note: RINSE shampoos out VERY WELL, just like you would conditioners.

:-)My extremely thin hair was a serious problem for me most of my adult life and I was also diagnosed with "male pattern baldness" even thought I am female. It is an inherited gene from my father.
I began taking multi-vitamins and sinemet 25/100 about 3-4 years ago. Since that time my hair has thickened and turned a shade darker. I am 55 yrs old and do not have a single grey hair. When I see people that I have not seen in years, they often comment on how they notice that my hair has thickened and also gotten darker. An uncommon side effect of Sinemet ( usually used to treat parkinson's disease and restless let) is darkening of natural hair color. I think the combination of multi-vit and Sinimet are the factors that improved my thinning hair. Talk to your doctor.
I had visited many different doctors, dermetologists & internists who could only tell me that I had male pattern baldness. That all changed when I started taking my multi vitamins and Sinimet.
The hair change side effects of Sinimet are not in the common drug teaching sheets that the pharmacies had out.
It is located in the medication literature given to physicians and the PDR. Don't give up.....Try this, with your physicians approval if nothing else works. It worked for me.

I use a a lotion called Ziravie it provides a blend of natural
nutriente, minerals & vitamins that reach deep into the scalp, to
stimulate robust hair growth and help overcome thining, shedding and
baldness, I use it three times a week I recomend it to everybody specially because you color your ahir this will help the after affect of the chemicals in the hair dyes Sharon

I recommend coloring your hair with a demi permanent color. That is a no-lift deposit only color you can't go lighter than your own color only equal or darker. Wella Color Touch is a wonderful one, but you must go to a wella salon for that. Every salon will have their own brand. I encourage this because this treatment will be like conditioning your hair while it coats the hair and gives it the look and feel of being thicker. I have been licensed 30 years, and have also seen good results with nioxin, though the best candidates seem to be cancer survivors and bariatric surgery patients.
