I am so looking forward to today's show. Bette Midler is terrific! I think she is such a great talent all the way around --- and she is always so upbeat and personable. Thanks, Oprah, for having her (and her daughter, Sophie) on your show.

I absolutely love the show, I watch everyday. I was watching today and something was said while talking to the

cast of Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins that bothered me. It was when they were talking about their former jobs and floor buffers and grocery "baggers" etc, that Oprah said, doesnt it make success so much more wonderful. To remember where you came from.
My husband buffed and cleaned store floors for 10 years before blowing his back out on the job, and I considered him successfull. I know that Oprah didnt mean anything negative, however how do we measure success. Is it by how much money we make or how famous we have become. Or is it by bagging groceries or "buffing floors", raising a happy family and loving your wife or husband that makes you successfull? I think people need to stop and look at their lives and ask themselves how they measure success.

OMG, I love Bette. I saw her in concern in 1983 and would love to see her again. She is one of those people that seem to be.....true. She is what she is and I love her. When I heard she would be in LV for the next 2 years, I looked up the tickets. Its my goal to get there. Her shows are so wonderful and the energy is crazy.
I would have love to have been in the same room with my two favorite woman, Bette and Oprah, those at the show were truley lucky. What a great show!!

the Divine Miss M! I am a big fan of yours and of Vegas (having been many times) and am wondering how you reconcile your environmental concerns with the excess that defines Vegas?! Though I thoroughly enjoy my travels there and the wonderful dining, shopping and shows, my inability to recycle a newspaper or plastic water bottle while I am there (not to mention all the lights!) is becoming increasingly an issue for me!! Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Many thanks!!

Leslie

Bette Midler is an amazing entertainer and an even more amazing woman. A million years ago when The Divine Miss M. won her first Grammy as "Best New Artist" (!) three friends and I managed to sneak into her private after party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. We actually hitchhiked down Sunset Blvd in a pouring rain storm from the Hollywood Palladium where the Grammy's were held that year. We literally looked like four drowned rats. The party was lavish and filled with big stars like Paul Simon and others. We tried desperately to fade into the woodwork which was hard to do considering how obviously out of place we were lest we be thrown out! This wonderful woman actually came up to us with a huge smile on her face, was as warm and as gracious as you'd imagine and told us to enjoy ourselves and have some champagne! It was an evening I'll never forget, and I'll forever remember her kindness to four soaking wet uninvited fans. She IS Divine!!!

Dear Oprah, Monique made me cry when she talked about meeting you in Baltimore. Did you hear what I heard? You're her Mary Tyler Moore!!! Is that great or what? That ranks right up there with the lady who bought your shoes and stood in them when she needed to feel sustained. Thanks. I needed that. Sheila

That was a heart-warming testimony! I cried, too. That has to be one of the sweetest things I have ever heard. God bless Oprah and God bless Monique!:x

I love Bette Midler..There is just something about her eyes and smile that just makes you connect with her. When she smiles she captivates the audience and makes it so I can't help but smile back at the T.V.. You feel like she loves what she does. And wow to have a daughter that looks so like her.It 's kind of a cool thing but would/could be a freaky feeling. Hey when I'm 62 I want to look as good as Bette.(who am I kidding, I'm 49 and she still is twice as hot as I ever will be.LOL) I've got to get to Vegas!!!

I am glad to know that Bette is sending a fan to "fly" to vegas. Funny, I thought they were both concerned about emissions. As for Al Gore, scientiest have been studying global warming for years, now, he gets a piece price for something he knows nothing about. What about the fact the that he uses more electric in his home that a small city. I am sure several college students have probably written a thesis on global warming and could have made it into a movie.

What did you want her to do? Send the fan to Vegas by camel? Remarking on the energy resources Ms. Midler and Mr. Gore use personally is entirely missing the point, not to mention simple-minded. The point she and Mr. Gore are making is that as famous people they can make more of a difference with outreach, with getting our government to change laws that affect us all. I agree with you, college students could have written a thesis, and yes, possibly made it into a movie - but would they have had the prestige, influence and experience to get that thesis and film out to a wider audience? And, btw, Mr. Gore was awarded a Nobel "Peace Prize"

Dear Bette:

We met many, many years ago when I was taking vocal lessons from Pappy Earnheart in Manhattan. I wished I had known at the time how fabulous you've been over the years I have watched you use some of the technics I'd have loved to had time to chat with you and get you know you much better. Life is so funny and how it works, and I keep watching whenever you are on TV. YOur specials were great, I loved the bit of the mermaid...how entertaining that was...and the movie Beaches is my all time favorite..

I never made much of my God-given talent other than singing with a local band here on Long Island, or singing at my local church... I had big dreams and hopes andI still do write song-poems from time to time and wonder how great they'd sound if you had been singing them.:D

I don't know how often you get to Manhattan or if you'd even be interested in having a chat either in person, or,line, or phone...Please feel free to contact me as I have no other way of getting in touch with you. I hope you are able to read this blog as I know what a busy life you lead and time is so precious...

Thanks for reading and hopefully you'll get in touch...I'd love to share some of my lyrics with you and or just chat about the good old days...

Sincerely
Mara

No not on a camel, but maybe they should practice a little of what they preach. Like maybe solar energy. Do you know that the elements used to make a hybrid engine are worse to dispose of than the emissions of a car? I am not simple minded as you may think, I have a masters in environmental engineering from a prestigious university. Why did he get the credit for global warming?
