Meet the real people behind the things we love! How one couple became the $500 million ice cream dream team. Plus, the $2 invention Oprah can't live without!

Dear Oprah,

I just wanted to encourage everyone to watch the show on Tuesday. Garrett Boone, the founder of The Container Store, will be appearing as one of the "Face Behind the Name" guests. He is one of my favorite people in the world. He is my husband's godfather, and when our son was born in September, we chose to name him after Garrett--Dobie Boone Illich. I'm so happy he will be receiving national recognition for his accomplishments!

Looks like she'll be talking about Laboutain shoes, which I love to look at and wish I could (afford) and wear without killing my knees. Maybe she'll teach us how she walks in them.

Regarding Cold Stone, I highly doubt that any of the current issues will be brought up on the show and that is very disappointing. I suppose that is why Cold Stone did not announce to its franchise community that Cold Stone would be on the Oprah show until after taping was already done. They were probably afraid that people from around the country would show up to raise thier hand to ask Don Sutherland the tough questions themselves. What about the hundreds of stores that have closed down in the past year? What about the over 500 stores that people are trying to sell right now - but can't. What about all of the families across the country who's lives have been destroyed by the corporate greed and fraud at Cold Stone Creamery? I am just shocked that Oprah would feature this company without doing more research into the current state of the business and those affected by it.

This is not a new concept. Back in the early 80's the exact same concept existed in a chain of stores by the name of Steve's Ice Cream that started in, Somerville MA. I worked for them one summer at one of their stores which was in NYC. Steve's had the ice cream deck and all the mix-ins so client can select what they wanted. The ice cream was home-made on the premises. I can remember lines out the door and down the street!

Sutherlands and Cold Stone - you are NOT the originators of smoosh-ins in ice cream!! Give credit where it's due. In this case to STEVE HERRELL. In the 1970's he came up with the idea and opened several ice cream stores in greater Boston. I'll never forget my first time there as a child. The ice cream industry was forever changed.

I'm very interested in the container store products but their website is not up. Any idea why they would be maintaining their website on the day they are on national tv?

Hi, I'm guessing... but maybe there is high traffic since the show just finished airing. Try again later and it should work for you. :)

Hi Harpobear,
No don't believe it's due to traffic. Before the show ended I received a message when trying to get in saying to try later as they were maintaining the site. Why maintain the site the day you are on the Oprah show? Shouldn't they have done that with the anticipation of the increased traffic after the show?

IMHO, seems like a company that's not too ecommerce savvy.

Two of my favorite stores. Williams & Sonoma and the Container Store. I was surprised that Oprah had never heard of the Container Store until a few weeks ago. We're fortunate to have two locations in my hometown. LOVE that store!

I love Cold Stone Creamery! My husband, baby daughter and I were some of the first customers at the McClintock and Southern store in Tempe. We lived in the neighborhood and I was addicted to Susan's Special, a wonderful concoction of vanilla ice cream, fudge, caramel and nuts. Yummy! Thanks for the wonderful feature!

Just Google the name and you will pull up their official website...with store locator, shopping, etc.

"Names Behind the Companies"....What a fabulous show today was!!!! Loved it all----it is just great to see the people who follow through with an idea culminating in such successful businesses. I have already run to Staples to buy the great highlighters with tab markers because I do the same thing when I want to keep track of stories in magazines. I never write in a book unless it is a paperback but I put those little Post-it tabs in everything. Love the Container store but don't have one near me ( I will be purchasing some of those fabulous looking green boxes somehow) and sure wish Christian Louboutin would design some heels that are shorter because the designs are incredibly beautiful and we all can't wear those high heels.
Great fun show..............thank you producers and Oprah, as always. J. Mc
