How does one respond to people who think they 'own' the truth and you don't?

Nothing seems to get through to them and the only thing they try to do is impose their 'truth' upon you....Actually they don't even listen to another person.....:|

Any ideas? ?:|

People can think what they want...it matters not...

What matters is what you think, about self....I own my truth...and I believe you own your truth...if you believe others see your beliefs as un-true...look within...and correct your mind...and believe in self...nothing else matters....the opinions of others come from their experiences...not yours...each are different...follow the calling of your heart...then you will be coming from the space within...where the soul does live...blessings...I enjoy your posts....tt

This is what I've been told by my spiritual teachers-Avoid such people. Don't ever try to debate with them because it'll be futile. You'll only be wasting your time and losing your sanity. Whatever they say, just smile and say, 'ok...thanks' and cut short the conversation. If they hand you any flyers or books, take them and dump them in the nearest trash can.....all these are easier to do in real life. It's difficult to do it on the message boards. Sometimes I get tempted to respond to them though I know that the discussions will lead nowhere. It's just a waste of time.

I give the same advice to my kids-'If anyone says that their way is the only way and that only they got the 'truth' and no one else, avoid them like plaque. Get away from them'.

Dear Mits, A technique that some therapists use, is called Gestalt. See yourself in the other person. The it follows that you will understand that at one time you believed or felt the same way about an issue, subject. So then, compassionate understanding kicks in. And sometimes, when we really listen, we can find the "gem" they might have to offer! Everyone has a mirror for us to look into. It could just take a moment to back off, contemplate and decide where we want to flow....

Greetings mitsuku.o,.

The concept of 'owning' any such thing is in itself the faulty idea.

One can experience and realize ,...but not own...

Lets say we are in a concert hall with 200 people ,listening to a 40 member classical orchestra concert

We all are experiencing the same concert and in our own way ,some hear and enjoy the music ,others feel it ,some

hear ,see it in many colors and feel it , while others follow just one instrument ,example the violins ,piano or wind instruments.

and the musicians themselves they too experiencing same concert, also hear the other instrument and

read the music and follow the conductor ,..He who himself can hear and know every single note to be played by each and every

orchestra member. Would anyone expressing their own personal experience be wrong in talking about it ?

There is no such thing as right and/or wrong .

There is only levels and depth of conscious perceptions of consciousness itself

and of it's understanding by the individual soul tuned into it..

As we each in our own ways have the potential to love and enjoy the Music......

When we learn to be open and without judgement read in between the lines of the message

we will appreciate every one for their gifts and input, for we all are sustained and Loved unconditionally

by that Same ONE Power by which we express our life expreriences., even though we might often forget such.

Though we by holding tight onto our own learned ways of perceiving , judge what we do not understand or

disagree with ,for they according to us, perceive it in a different, possible even to confined way.

Live and let live

Life is but a beautiful journey ,that we while traveling too can know ourselves and our Creator.

With deep gratitude for your very courageous threads ,creating space for many to come together

and so in sharing, hopefully too gain respect for our own and others ways of thinking and living

Thank you so much .

light ,love and peace

Audrey.

Thanks freedomguy. But I think if you do, then they'll tell you, politely or not so politely, that your truth is actually not the truth at all. And before you know it, you're arguing with this person... :(

Dear Patee, thanks for your response! :x Somehow I have difficulty placing myself in the place of, let's say a Scientologist or a Sai babe-follower, it seems so unbelievably strange to me to choose to follow such movements. Though I do see these followers have qualities of their own, which can be heartwarming and sincere, still I can't follow their stories about flying saucers or flying guru's, nor do I wish to understand why they entertain these kind of fantasies. Do you?

I loved your philosophical answer, thank you, Audrey! :D But I have only one 'problem' with it...live and let live...what about people who won't let me live? People telling me I'll burn in hell if I don't believe in their religion or way of life?

It is too bad for them. They are wasting their time and efforts by having such a stunted view and frankly they are missing out on many relationships they could have formed just because of their personal perspective. They might even be missing out on having a greater view of God because there are many aspects they might be missing by being so narrow minded. I mean what kind of relationship can you have with a person that you either pity or think is a fool? I guess this thought could go both ways. As for you, if you are truly worried about burning in hell do something about it. If not, c'est la vie.

Here's a good tip:

Never debate with someone far less intelligent than you, as it may lead to an argument.

All arguments are caused by one, or both people being uneducated on the matter.

But to those watching, both will appear that way.

Here's another good tip.

Nobody knows the absolute truth of anything.

Keep that in mind when someone claims they do. It's a good clue to use for the previous tip.

mitsuku.o,

Proverbs 23:9 Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words.

Understanding truth comes when we receive truth. Jesus Christ is the Truth. We already know that those who have not received Jesus Christ are going to scorn the ones who have.

There is hope in Isaiah 55:11 God's Word does not return void.

So, we can point to the Truth, but we are not the ones who can cause the understanding of it.

People are entitled to their own truth.

It's not nice when someone else wants to use your truth.

Truth should be backed up by some reason or evidence, otherwise, it can be perceived as untruth.

A person will benefit if they see the truth, because it sheds the untruths and brings peace.

A person has to be true to themselves in order to be true to others.

My truth or not, matters just to be true.
