I was so disappointed in the average talent that was chosen for the karaoke challenge. First of all, I thought that it was a "KARAOKE" challenge. Why was it ok for some people to be sitting in front of their computer singing? I specifically read the directions, got a sitter for my little girl, and recorded myself singing karaoke at a bar so I could enter into the contest. Secondly, I couldn't submit because of the jam that occurred downloading to the website. I am the type of person who never complains, and always sees that my iced tea is half full:) However, I feel compelled to give my opinion on the injustice I feel happened here. I am not alone in being upset about this and I pray that you will open this up again because of the huge response you got from hopefuls who are very talented singers, who just don't have the resources to make their dreams come true. This has definately made me realize my talent and I'm posting myself singing on youtube. I'm not going to be afraid of the attention I get anymore. I am going to go for it and get my voice out there for everyone to hear!:)

OPRAH: YOU are why I am doing this. Maybe this was exactly what I needed to let my shyness stay behind me. We only live once and I just want to sing!

Saw the show today and it was great. Of course, I had an ulterior motive for watching.....my son, Rob Weddle, from Orlando is one of the 8 semi-finalists. I have to tell you I sat there with tears in my eyes when his singing was interrupted (what he thought was a retaping because his first video was defective) and you told him he was 1 of the 8 semi-finalists. This is his dream come true. Thanks for giving him this chance.

I don't like to be a person that brings things up, but one of the other members said she was aquainted with one of the 8 finalists, she didn't say who, but that the finalist, she, had 2 albums. Look at her reply: marcyd4 on the Karaoke Challenge page she responded 22 hours ago, to read the whole thing, it wouldn't hurt to check into it.

I am also concerned about one of the contestants. This was supposed to be an amateur competition not for singing professionals or ones who are or have been in a performing paid position with their voice or in a union. Well, Anna Harrington was a vocalist at Disney, so doesn't that mean she was in a union required for performers?? She is also a professionally paid singer in the biggest jazz club "Dizzy's Coca Cola Club", so why is this seasoned professional going up against unknown karaoke lovers?? I am disheartened. Please explain this to me Oprah producers...

I HAVE BEEN IN MANY VERY DISAPPOINTING CONTESTS...I SANG IN MY LIVING ROOM WITH A CRAPPY CAMERA.. THE MUSIC WAS FROM COMPUTER ON MY SPACE. IT SOUNDED SURPRISINGLY GOOD. I JUST HAD SURGERY ON MY EYES AND LOOKED AWFUL BUT THE CRAPPY CAMERA DIDNT SHOW TO MUCH. I HAD OVER 30 STITCHES AND BLACK AND BLUES. I DID TELL THAT IN THE ABOUT ME PART. I SAW WHO THEY PICKED AND WELL WHAT COULD I SAY. I GUESS THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOUNG AND THAT I AM NOT.. 48 AND HAVE ALWAYS SANG.AND ALWAYS TOLD I HAD A GIFT. WIDOWED AT 29 I HAD TWO BOYS TWO RAISE AND LEFT MY DREAMS AND DESIRES BEHIND. I MEAN 8 PEOPLE THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE AND ALL AGES. I GIVE UP. I ALSO READ THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE GROUP PICKED WITH SOME MUSIC OUT THERE. I SAW TWO IN A BAND ,DISAPPOINTED YES BUT I KNEW GOING INTO THIS NOT TO EXPECT ANYTHING.. I WANTED THE AVERAGE HOUSEWIFE,OR MECHANICE WORKING 2 JOBS AND STRUGGLING TO BE PICKED... I GUESS PEOPLE FORGET AFTER THEY SUCCEED THAT THE DESIRES OTHERS HAVE MEAN EVERYTHING.. HANG IN THERE AND CONTINUE BECAUSE IF YOU FEEL THAT MUCH DESIRE AND THINK POSITIVE YOU WILL SUCCEED. I PERSONALLY HAD NO MONEY TO DO THE VIDEO MORE PROFESSIONAL. OUT OF WORK AND HEALTH ISSUES,THERE IS NO MONEY.. JUST MY VOICE AND MY DESIRE. GOOD LUCK BEST WISHES....

Thanks! I didn't know which one it was, but guessed it was the one they interviewed at the Jazz Club. I wonder how many times she has gone Karaoke in the past year! Give someone else who is a true Karaoke singer a chance. She has a good voice, but not a true karaoke singer. This girl has already had her 15 min of fame. Give someone else their chance, someone who is a true Karaoke singer.

I don't understand why you think being in a band should automatically disqualify these people from being part of the competition. Because they had the motivation to actually go out and try to do something with their voices other than sit around and tell themselves that they are good singers?

Being in a band doesn't make you automatically famous nor does it mean that you are under contract to a major record label. It means that you were willing to struggle to write and learn songs, hunt and beg for shows, play for maybe $50 a night to drunks who would rather you play covers. Plenty of local bands scrape together their own money to release albums, in fact, I'd be willing to bet that there are more independent albums recorded every year than professional ones. People in bands aren't allowed to be karaoke singers as well? That's ridiculous.

Your whole post stinks of sour grapes and sob story.

Congrats to the finalists! From what I saw on Friday, it's going to be a tough competition!

I don't think all professionals are famous, some just barely make a living, but they are getting paid for it. So you wouldn't consider being in a band and getting paid, or working in a club singing, and getting paid, being a professional. Can you define professional singer please. I think the rule #1 states that no professional singers, if you get paid for a gig, you are professional, if you work at a club singing and get paid, you are a professional. I think this karaoke contest is for the people who go karaoke each week, maybe not good enough to do an album, or get paid to sing, but still are pritty good singers. Oprah made the rule not others, that no professional singers. Can't change the rules. I do understand your comment, there are a lot of sob stories. I also congratulate everyone who made it! Let the competition begin!
