Dear De. Angelou

I don't know why so many people are discouraging my daughter to apply to top schools in the country. I am a alumna of Spelman College, I attended for two years than transfered to Universiy of Southern California. I finally graduated 2009 with a BA degree in Sociology from Chapman University adult learners. She listens to people who never got the college experience like me.I didn't even take AP and Honor classes like she is taking now. I was a mainly C and B student in high school. She says that was decade ago. I told her the changes are better now due to economy. I am a ingle mother with a 14 yea old and an adult disabled son, age 22. she needs help and so do I. HELP!

Dear Fathamaha,

First let me start by saying comgrates for your accomplishments. I am a 24 yr old single parent of one and I regret not going directly to college. Im now getting ready to go to a university college now. Dont get to upset about your daughter just yet. she may still consider once she start looking out there and see it takes a degree to make the mega bucks. But what may be a good idea is to tell her to think about what she want in life then ask her if she think 8 or 9 dollars an hour will get it. I dont think so. She should think and plan for her future Lord knows I wish I had. And maybe you should instruct peolple not to discuss that with your daughter and that you can handle it. I hope this helped a little.
