2 Approaches to Heal Your Traumas from Past Lives

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 8:53 PM

Have you had psychotherapy sessions in which you dig out one after another of your traumas from childhood? And all the reasoning seemed right -- “Oh, this past trauma is causing me to act this way now!” However, for some reason, your life remained pretty much the same. Why? Is it possible that something deeper than childhood traumas are affecting you? If so, can we find them and heal them?

Also, have you wondered why siblings of the same parents who were brought up in pretty much the same way grow up to have very different views of life and indeed lead very different lives? If the conditions in this present childhood were about the same, is it possible the reason is in their past lives?

History of Past Life Regression Therapy

It’s been more than twenty years since Dr. Brian Weiss published “Many Lives, Many Masters,” bringing the idea of past life regression therapy to the general public. Past lives and reincarnation is no dream. Your essence, your soul, goes through many lives, of different genders, ethnic groups, and social settings. Your soul life didn’t happen when you were born this time around -- it started eons of years ago.

In this article, I’d like to introduce you to two effective ways to explore your past lives and heal the traumas from past lives. I’ve had firsthand experiences in both modalities. (Well, let me put a disclaimer here. I also practice one of the modalities. But I will be as fair as I can possibly think of.) One is the hypnotherapy (the same approach described in “Many Lives, Many Masters”) and another is Akashic Record Reading.

Past life regression hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy and therefore performed my medical professionals. You either visit their office, or some hypnotherapists also give phone sessions. The therapist will guide you go back in time, first to your childhood, and then to the past life that holds the cause of the problem at hand. You will recall the traumatic experiences quite vividly. Then the therapist will assure you that this traumatic experience is already a history, and you don’t have to suffer from it any longer.

Akashic Records

Akashic Record Reading, on the other hand, is done by someone who can read the Akashic Records. Akashic Records are the energetic records of all the things that have ever happened in the universe and all the things that can happen going forward.

The word “Akasha” is a Sanskrit word that means “ether” or “space”. Akashic Records are not written on scrolls of paper nor are they on Google. They are recorded energetically -- in the space or ether. This may all sound like a New Age hoax, but science is discovering the existence of such energy field. In “Science and the Akashic Field,” Dr. Ervin Laszlo discusses the Akashic field, or sometimes called zero point field.

For the purpose of soul healing, the Akashic Record reader will retrieve relevant information of that soul in the Akashic Records. The reader may do this while you are talking to them or they may do it ahead of time and share their findings with you. Some readers prefer to do their reading face-to-face and some use identifying information (such as your full name at birth) to access the Akashic Records and therefore can do the reading regardless where you are in the world. Because the Akashic Records are energetic records, space and time doesn’t matter really.

Comparing the two approaches

I think there are pros and cons in each approaches.

What’s wonderful with past life regression therapy is its directness. You get to experience your past life in virtual reality. There is nothing like real recollection of the root cause of the problem.

Unfortunately, the same direct quality of the past life regression therapy can be quite scary for some people. Because you are seeking the root causes of your current problems, the experiences you recall in past life regression therapy is likely to be very traumatic. Murder, persecution, painful disease, war, sudden natural disaster. . . betrayal of a loved one, loss of a loved one . . . long unrewarding life of poverty and loneliness. . . These things may come to you as your experience.

Another challenge with past life regression therapy is the potential time involvement. It’s rare that you get right to the root cause in one or two sessions. Like other forms of psychotherapy, it’s a long process that requires your commitment.

With Akashic Record Reading, the experience is indirect. The Akashic Record reader explains what happened in your past life and how it is affecting you to this day. As you listen to the explanation, you probably relate to the story -- it sounds strangely familiar. But still, it’s not a direct experience like in past life regression therapy, so the impact is pretty low.

The benefit of Akashic Record Reading is, if the reader is experienced and focused on the healing and empowerment, they can get right to the core of the problem in one reading. It’s quick and easy for you.

I also want to point out another potential issue with Akashic Record Reading. Currently there is no third party recognition system with Akashic Record Reading. So finding a reader who is accurate and professional is critical. Of course, each past life regression therapist varies in their expertise, too, but at least, there is a license system with hypnotherapy.

It's about improving your life NOW

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasize that, whichever approach you may choose, you should look into your past lives with clear objective, such as healing and empowerment, rather than mere curiosity. In other words, the point is for you to live well NOW. It’s not about past lives, it’s about improving your present life. The knowledge of past lives is only a mean to this end.

Akemi...I enjoyed reading this article very much. Since everything is known to be vibration ( scientists know this) then it is easier to understand how someone can go in and read the "Akashic Records." Understanding where we have come from and what circumstances in our past are effecting our lives today can only help us to heal what remains as a sore spot. Healing these sore spots (from previous lives) then empowers us in this life.

In a sense, I look at Akashic Record Reading as a way to speed "the process" up. We came into this life to learn a new set of lessons based on what we've learned in previous lives. Getting an Akashic Reading will give us that edge....it will give us the information we need to work on the areas of our lives that are affected by these previous tramatic events.

" Akashic Records are the
energetic records of all the things that have ever happened in the
universe and all the things that can happen going forward." Wow, that's a powerful statement! Think about it, if the Akashic Records are also a record of everything that can happen...then that proves that everything already is...that we really do not create anything but simply "connect into source" and bring it forth into this dimension. We connect into all Potentia.

Reading this this morning opened the door to another question....I'd love to hear your thoughts on destiny....are we predestined to do the things that we do? Are we really making choices or following a predestined path? Food for thought!

Thanks for getting my juices flowing this morning. Excellenct article.

Akemi,

Thank you for posting this. I think it gives one a great comparison between the two approaches of past life regression vs Akashic records. Although I greatly agree with both, and think there is great value in each, your explantion here really helped me have a quick summary and better understanding of each. And as you say, in the end it is about thethe present moment - the NOW.

Thank you

Hi Kathy,

Yes, Akashic Record Reading is a great tool to expedite "the process". The life lessons we chose prior to this birth are in the Records.

To answer your question -- which I believe to be on everyone's mind. Well, we do choose certain major paths in life before incarnation, and some people may call this "destiny". However, it is a lot more loosely set than most people would think. Usually, we have a handful of destinations we are set to visit, and then hundreds of places we would visit if the situation is right. And usually the method and timing to the visit is up to us.

It's very much like a road trip. Say, visiting LA is my destiny. But how and when I do this is up to my choices, the choices I make with my free will. I can drive there. Or I may fly to San Diego, rent a car and drive. Or I might fly right to LAX. Or I might choose to walk all the way -- like, when I retire and have so much time at hand.

On the other hand, I may wish to go to Hawaii. I can do this for sure, but not by driving. If I insist on driving to all the places I want to go, Hawaii is not an option. So there are certain restrictions in the choices we make. We still have free will, but not all the options we may wish we have.

So, yes, there is destiny, but there is also free will. It's not like we are walking the predestined path and we have no say to it. And we can even deviate from the path if we so choose.

Evita,
Glad you liked the post. I hope this article helps people make informed decisions.

Kathy,
I just made a response to your question. I don't see it yet, however -- let me check back after a while. This is my first post on Oprah and I'm not familiar how the system works. If I don't see my reply posted in a day, I'll write it again.

Hello Akemigaine, Interesting post, I've always wondered about past life regression and I've read the book Many Lives Many Masters and was comforted by some of the recounts of certain individuals as I lost my son last year and although I'm confident he has entered into another dimension and is alive and well, the stories affirmed for me what I already knew.

How would one go about finding a past life reader? How would you know if this person is genuine and knowledgeable? What should we look for and avoid in such an individual? Are the costs for such sessions reasonable by average standards, middle income that is, or is it in a higher range?

Thank You for whatever information you can give me

Blessings DnL

Hi DnL,

Sorry to hear about your son, but as you wrote, physical life and death is a minor issue for a soul. I'm glad you have the sense of peace about it.

About finding a reader. My suggestion is to search on Google. These days, most professional readers have websites. Read what they have to say about their service and see how you feel. Generally speaking, we do say who we are. Does the person sound trustworthy and honest, and is what they have to say consistent, open, and kind? Or are they talking in very generic terms, avoiding to disclose certain aspects of their service (such as the rate they charge)?

Because every person have different financial standards, it's very hard to discuss price. For instance, for person A, who would describe herself as middle class, may be happy to pay $150 for hair cut and coloring. Her husband may think that is total waste, while he is happy to spend $300 for an electric gadget. Some people never try alternative healthcare such as massage therapy because they are not covered by insurance, while their colleague may think it's worth the money if it alleviates her back pain without tricky medications.

So, I encourage you to look around, and listen to your inner guidance.

Kathy,
To sum up: Akashic Records hold everything that has happened and everything that CAN happen. Not everything that WILL happen. Your free will make it happen out of the possibilities.

Hi sme,

Well, the Akashic Record reader works as the interpreter of the Akashic Records.
The Akashic Records holds astronomical amount of info, so you need a good reader who is clear what kind of info she is looking for and how to interpret them.
You can call the Akashic Record reader a "medium" or "psychic" although they operate in much different way from other mediums who, say, specialize in communicating with the deceased spirits or someone who reads tarot cards.

Hope this helps.

Love & Light,
Akemi
